I am looking to debate with someone for gun laws. I believe that as an American citizen guns should be allowed to be carried by any person other than those with a mental disorder, or a prior record involving any type of violence. This is one of the fundamentals the America was raised on. My evidence that gun laws do not work and keep guns from the people that will use a gun for good use is Chicago. Where crime is 2.36 times higher than the national average. This is the city that has the strictest laws in the U.S. but yet their crime is through the roof.

Another argument made is California. According to the Brady Campaign score California has the strictest gun laws of any other state. You would think that they would be below if not at the bottom of the national average, WRONG! California is above the national average by 5%.

New Jersey is the second state with the most strict gun laws. Guess where 3 of the top 10 cities with the highest murder rates are. NEW JERSEY!

I would like to thank Pro for this debate. I would also like to note that there is a 2000 character limit.

Opening Statement
1.) Gun control is the strictest in Japan, and is widely implemented in England and Australia. Their gun homicide rates per year in England and Whales are 50 per year, compared to America's 100,000 per year. America has 30 times more gun homicides than Australia. Japan has a gun homicide rate close to zero. The statistics show that if Gun Control is implemented, it can work.

2.) The homicide rate per 100,000 people in Australia is 1.3, while in America it is 5, a drastic difference.

3.) Crime rate (burglary, rape, theft, arson, etc.) does not correlate to gun control, for gun crimes are crimes but not all crimes are gun crimes.

4.) A question for Pro; why do people like you (advocates for less gun control) insist on being able to own instruments of destruction that can easily take away a person's life in the blink of an eye? This question has always been nagging me at the back of my mind.

Conclusion
I would like to again thank con for this debate, and look foreword to what seems will be interesting following rounds.
