Before you guys jump my case for another stupid title, this one (in order not to trip myself here) MAY have a signifigant meaning to it.

It's a riddle, more or less. Try and figure it out. I'll post it if you're right!

Con

I thank my opponent for the debate and the readers for the opportunity.

I shall negate the resolution, "This debate is arbitrary and pointless."

Clarifications:

this debate - refers to the debate that James.ticknor and I are currently associated with. It is debate number 10567 on this website.

arbitrary - subject to individual will or judgment without restriction; contingent solely upon one's discretion.

pointless - without force, meaning, or relevance; insignificant.

My opponent quotes: "Before you guys jump my case for another stupid title, this one (in order not to trip myself here) MAY have a signifigant meaning to it."

My opponent has contradicted himself. He affirms a resolution that states, "This debate is arbitrary and pointless." The statement implies that this debate is, as a matter of fact, both arbitrary and pointless. It also implies that this debate is pointless, and that's all there is to it. No doubt or question about it, my opponent's definitive statement is meant to be implied to be truthful in all of its applied cases.

In my opponent's quote, he states that "this one ... MAY have a signifi[c]ant meaning to it." He has contradicted himself. The topic of the debate implies a truth that must be applied to all circumstances, and his statement states that there may be significance of this debate. Thus, the debate is not necessarily pointless. My opponent has contradicted himself and has negated the resolution in his own words. The resolution is negated.

"It's a riddle, more or less. Try and figure it out. I'll post it if you're right!"

This really does not matter. My opponent has not really provided any argumentation or evidence to support his side. With a lack of arguments from my opponent, I heavily urge a Con vote. Thank you.

Generally, if you want your opponent to argue a specific case, you should make them Pro. It's easy to negate a resolution from a variety of standpoints- including arguing technicalities.

Well, you provided virtually no argumentation and made this a one round debate.

All is fair in love, war, and arguments ;)

I had hoped to challenge my opponents thinking on this, but he took my explanation for a techlicality. And because I say it MAY have meaning, does not inherently mean I think it has meaning.

The point was, I was arguing that this debate was pointless. Since you have the burdon of clash, you would also have the burdon of proof. Hah! With nothing to clash with, you would be forced to supply reasons why it was true, that it wasn't pointless. However, there is no reason. This is where you could have gotten the riddle correct.

You could have said: "This is impossible for me to contend with, since I can't give any reason (Now) why it would have a point. However, if I choose to forefiet, my opponent would win this debate, securing a higher percentile ratio.

Eh, it sounded better in my mind. However, you could have said. "One of us will win the debate. In this, it is not pointless, but fruitful."

I don't agree with the tecnicalities of your arguements, because I was trying to help my opponent so that he could understand the debate better, but if you win, you won fairly.

Thanks anyways, man.

"...MAY have a signifigant meaning to it."

But does not, because "signifigant" is not a word. The word you were looking for is "significant."

I only spent about two minutes on the argument, so I don't understand why you think this debate was a mind bender ...

James.ticknor
Thanks for accepting. This one will be a mind bender, since...well, I don't wanna give any clues, so I'll shut up now.
