Pro

This site makes you lose or win not solely depending on the arguments but significantly how popular you are on the site and the way you speak. This site has nothing to do with the points you make and how well you debate. You cant win a debate on this site because people are biased and often vote depending on their personal views without even reading the debate. This is nothing like actually debate just whether you speak convincingly and are not rude. Therefore, I will significantly decrease my use of this site and you should as well until the voting is fair and we can actually debate.
Raisor

Con

Experience has shown that a number of policy debaters (like yourself) utilize this site.

I contend that at the least these debaters will understand proper judging paradigms.

By leaving insightful reasons for decision on the comments, debaters with reasonably informed paradigms can set a model for other users of the site. Through this educating process, the site will become a fairer debating society. This scenario is not "impossible."

Furthermore, most debates result in a winner, so obviously it is possible to win. Perhaps the win is not fair or deserved, but it is still possible to win, and that is the topic of debate.

Next, a definition from merriam webster for "rigged":

1 : to manipulate or control usually by deceptive or dishonest means
2 : to fix in advance for a desired result

The site is not rigged. The site does nothing to favor one side or the other. Your bone of contention is with user responsibility, not the site. As such the site is not "rigged," just like a policy round with a lay judge isnt "rigged," its just judged by someone who is incompetent. There is no "fixing for a desired result" or "manipulation." There are just a lot of judges who dont understand what they are doing.

As Pro, you must defend the stance that "this site is rigged and impossible to win," meaning you must win on BOTH positions that "this site is rigged" and is "impossible to win."

As Con, I must just prove your statement false. I can do this by negating only one of stances, as the premise must be taken as a whole.

Once again, my opponent closed his account, so by default you should vote for me.

Seriously, you cant vote for Pro because he forfeited by quitting the site.

Plus theres all my points from R1 that were never addressed.

Vote Con.

almost every debate, regardless of the actual content in the debate, is voted on simply based by liberal bias. I've read debates that were completely won by either the pro or con, yet the vast majority of people voted "liberally" against the person that actually won the debate. This is especially apparent involving social issues.

Cause you're conservative? Seriously....I kinda thought this website was a bit more right wing....but maybe i'm extreme.

why does it seem like everyone on this website is liberal?

although i voted for you out of default, it would have been fairer to close the debate as it really wasn't a debate.

I had a judge that voted for a team because he had better looking shoes, because he heard no voters.

Another one was a guy ran a 'God K' and the judge decided to flip a coin: If heads God would intervene and they would win the debate, or aff's arguments hold on tails. God intervened.

It's more about rhetorical skill than logic and facts, that's for sure. And that's only if the voter doesn't already have an opinion on the subject. But I guess this is just a theory.

I haven't read this debate, but I do find it delightfully ironic that the person saying it is impossible to win lost.

I judge for policy debate, and I can tell you voting is far from fair.

Again and again I see people who clearly deserve to win lose or tie.

I can point to people who vote on arguments that werent made, or people who have literally said "Pro was a better debater, but I disagree with his position so I voted Con."

I found people to be rather fair when it comes to voting; I try to vote for whoever made the best argument, but when they're about even I generally go with who I agree more with. Also, part of a debate is convincing others of your point, so if someone makes a voter agree with them, than they deserve to win (assuming the voter didn't already have an opinion on the topic)

perhaps, policydebategod, you're just pissy that you lost. Please don't take offense at that, jsut a possibility. I agree that the site is OPEN to opinion based voting, but not rigged. I would say that your debating style is kinda brash, so people huff and puff and vote for the other person. but if people looked a little, like at the page they see when they logged in, they would see that soon the site will have two voting opportunities on each debate, one for who debated better and one for opinion polls.
