Today more rap artists are talking about doing drugs. For example Lil Wayne has a song called blunt blowin'. In country music Eric Church has a song Drink in my hand. While i don't condemn alcohol it is meant to be drunk in songs. Rock is about sex and drugs. I have provided examples now its your turn

Con

Pro is claiming that songs are getting essentially out of hand and are not appropriate. The issue with his claim is that we have to determine what is appropriate and what is not. Cursing and Drinking are common in the society we live in, so it is only natural to assume songs will be made about it. Around 130 million Americans drink alcohol[1]. There are 316 million people in the USA[2]. That is a little over half the american population that drinks, which is a majority. So it is common to think a lot of songs will be about drinking. The same can be said for sex and even smoking marijuana. Marijuana has become legal in 21 states [3].

In Closing

To say something is inappropriate you have to define why and by whose definition we are talking about. By pros definition it may be inappropriate but by the rest of the world all of these things in the music videos are common.

I have a song named Karate Chop by lil wayne and there is a line that is very disturbing. Rapper Lil' Wayne is not exactly known for his sensitivity, but his latest lyrical effort plumbs new depths with a line that's not only misogynistic, but also dismissive of the civil rights movement.
In "Karate Chop (remix)", Wayne threatens to "beat that p***y up like Emmett Till", prompting a complaint from Till's living cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor, "My agenda is not to be disrespectful to Lil Wayne, even as much as I feel he's been disrespectful to my family. We just want Emmett's name to be removed from that song...He wouldn't even be out rapping these stupid lyrics without the sacrifice Emmett made."

Emmett Louis Till was a 5ft4, 14-year-old African American from Chicago. While on a trip to visit relatives in Mississippi, Till was brutally murdered by a white gang, for the supposed crime of flirting with a white woman.

On the day prior to his murder, Till visited a grocery store and spoke to 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant, who owned the store with her husband, Roy Bryant. Some accounts say Till wolf-whistled at Bryant, others that he called her "baby" - the exact details of their encounter are is disputed. In the early hours of the following morning Till was taken from his house by a gang led by Roy Bryant and murdered.

His body was found three days later, badly beaten, shot and with an eyeball gouged out from a socket. Till's mother insisted on an open casket funeral and images of his badly disfigured body were published around the world, drawing attention to the civil rights struggle in the South. Both defendants were later acquitted at trail by an all-white jury.

Lil' Wayne's record label, Epic have apologised for the lyric and pledged to remove the remix from the internet, but Lil' Wayne himself is yet to offer comment.

Again simply put this is irrelevant. Pros argument relies on the fact that he thinks this is inappropriate or obscene behavior. I have shown how almost everything he mentioned is accepted commonly in this culture.

Rap music especially has some of these traits. This has been happening for a while and is nothing new. Take Eminem he has always been open about taking care of his daughters and has countless songs with them in it. Ja rule took at shot at Haley during his song loose change

"Em ya claim ya mother's a crackhead and Kim is a known slut,
so what's Haley gon' be when she grows up?"[1]

Essentially Pro is arguing this from his perspective and is assuming all of this is inappropriate. This is just common in the rap game and apologies often follow along with him. Chris brown even took a shot a Drake recently as well. Specifically in rap culture, this is common place so it would not be considered obscene. If we were debating this is in a different time, sure it may be considered inappropriate. We are debating about "today" though.

Therefore extend all arguemtns from previous rounds as well.

You go, Mikal! I love that you are using logic and citing sources rather than relying on knee-jerk reactions.

Yes, while that is very true about the world we live in today, it also depends on the type of music you listen to. So, what music do you listen to?

Reasons for voting decision: Pro opened with a strong position. Clearly societies evolve and are more and more disconcerting to traditionalists. Weak arguments which Con exploited. Conduct for the forfeit.

Reasons for voting decision: Well I agree with Pro acutally before and after the debate . I think he has not perfeclty spoke about his stance and limited it to one single incident while debating we have to encompass a general argument. Con wins due to His Convincing arguments (Though it does not matches my views being a Muslim but I assume the debate was for west according to west to voted according to their prospective) Con took the Source points also. and condcut to Con because Pro FF. Thanks
