Thank you for accepting this debate. Although I am a die-hard Cowboys fan, even if I was not, I may honestly still have to say that Tony Romo is a better Quarterback than Eli Manning, not just as of this year, but in as of the both their careers. It's kind of amazing to see how the tides have changed this year for both quarterbacks. The offensive line for the Giants is nowhere to be found, while the Cowboys offensive line was an upgrade from previous years. It's also amazing to see how Manning performs with a collapsing line that Romo has usually has, and how Romo performs with a line that Eli usually has, and vice versa. With the line that Romo had this past season, Romo threw 31 Touchdown passes, whilst throwing only 10 interceptions for a total of 3,828 on the season, with a 96.7 QB rating. Eli on the other hand, only threw 18 touchdowns with a career-high 27 interceptions for a total of 3,818 yards, and a QB rating of 69.4. Thus, stating as to not only how he is a better QB than Eli, but to how much more intelligent he truly is than most Quarterbacks in the league, including Eli.
Going into this debate i am a die hard Eagles fan, and won't be placing and no matter how much i hate Eli, i still don't believe Tony is a better quarterback than Manning. i will be basing all of my stats from the 2006 season to the present, because Tony Romo did not play his first two years. Even though Eli did not play as well as he has in the past in the 2013 season, one year does not shape the overall rating of a quarterback.
Both quarterbacks can be comparable in a few ways. Both play in the NFC East division, Manning and Romo have close win percentages, and have both been to the pro bowl three times. although Tony Romo has four winning seasons to Manning's six. Manning has also led his team to two super bowl wins, but Tony hasn't yet reached the NFC championship game. the last four years Romo hasn't had a winning record, nor a playoff appearance. Manning in the last four years has had three winning seasons and won a super bowl. Eli Manning since 2006 has had a 8-2 playoff record, and Romo has only a 1-3 record in the playoffs. When it comes down to it the game is about winning, and Manning has led his team to a lot more winning then Romo has his.
For my secondary argument, I am going to discuss why Tony Romo is a better Quarterback than Eli Manning and elaborate more in order to make a better point. As far as stats are concerned, Eli has played in more games than Romo, but Romo's stats are simply better. Lifetime, Romo has 208 Touchdowns and 101 Interceptions, with a 95.8 Quarterback Rating. Eli, on the other hand, may have 229 Touchdowns, but also has 171 interceptions, with a Quarterback Rating of 85.2. That's 21 more touchdowns, but also 70 more interceptions. Although Eli Manning may have 2 rings under his belt, that does not necessarily mean he is the better Quarterback by any standards. To say an athlete is better because of the amount of championships he won is unethical. Trent Dilfer and Peyton Manning have both won only 1 Super Bowl. Does that mean that both of these Quarterbacks are of the same skill? Absolutely not. The reason why Eli Manning has those two rings in the first place is because of the fact that the Patriots' defense could not stack up to the Wide Receivers that the Giants had at that time. Not to mention, Eli had a great defense behind him in both of his Super Bowl winning years. Never in Tony Romo's career has he had a top 10 defense. Eli has. For every fault that the defense makes, it always comes back to bite Romo, for asinine reasons, in which he should not be blamed.
