In the interests of road safety and to reduce the fatality rate should the national speed limit be reduce from 70 MPH to 55 MPH?
countzander

Con

You're asking a question? Yes, the speed limit should be reduced...to zero. The UK should ban automobile use and encourage on public transportation. PT is better for the envirnoment, reduces accidents, and is less stressful.

Reported Road Casualties in Great Britain: 2012 Annual Report states

In 2012, there were a total of 195,723 casualties of all seventies in
road accidents reported to the police, 4 per cent lower than in 2011.
There were 1,754 people killed, an 8 per cent decrease from 2011
and 23,039 were seriously injured, down 0.4 per cent. Vehicle traffic
levels remained broadly stable for the second year running, though
there was a small fall of 0.4 per cent between 2011 and 2012.

Our best current estimate derived from NTS data is that the total of
number of road casualties in Great Britain annually, including those
not reported to the police, is within the range 630 thousand to 790
thousand with a central estimate of 710 thousand. This is based on
data for the five year period from 2008 to 2012

Reasons for voting decision: Neither side advanced a case, however I wish I could award con points for a decent job trolling with having a zero KPH speed limit, which would even make walking illegal.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro cited some stats, but didn't tie them to his argument, if he even had one. This was a silly debate.
