There are several important issues in the us election. But, I se National Security as the most important one.

For all the issues, please se:

I want us to be safe in our homeland and still keep our overseas relations good. I find Barack Obama to be the most suited candidate. Just look at his performance in Berlin were 200.000 people showed their enthusiasm.

I can agree that national security is an important issue for this election, however, I do not see it as the MOST important issue.

For me the most important issue in this election needs to be our economy, not national security.

Since Bush's first inaugural address, the economy has been on a downward tilt. President Bush remained so engaged in the conflicts in afghanistan and iraq that he blindfolded himself to domestic issues, particularly the economy. Now, at the end of Bush's term the economy is beginning to spiral out of control.

I ask my opponent this:
How can we ever begin to ensure any kind of national security if we do not have the money?
Ironically, military funding has been cut drastically over the last 8 years. All branches of the military have undergone certain administrative reorginization to handle their new and smaller budgets. Domestic military bases have been literaly shut down and demolished. Walter Reid Army Medical Center has housed wounded soldiers in condemned buildings to cut the cost of housing them in their own facilities. The civilian workforce has been cut down, and the administrative personnel have been assigned extra tasks to make up the difference. Our planes, for the first time since WW2 are not the most advanced in production. For the first time in history, our standard aircrafts are obsolete.
The reason for all of this???
No Money!
The Cure???
Fix the economy!

We cannot expect to fix our military vices if we have no money, and we cannot increase our wealth by ignoring the economy. Achieving the level of national security we have enjoyed in the past would be impossible without the single driving force that has made this nation the greatest perhaps in the world's history.
Our economy.

How did the north beat the south in the civil war? Its ability to produce more weapons, more ammunition, and other supplies faster than the south.
How did we beat out the Triple Alliance in WW1??? It was our ability to ship over supplies at a tremendously fast rate.
How did we beat the germans in ww2? Our ability to fund military projects better than the germans. Our ability to better supply our troops.

Our industry has been the single cause of our military power since the turn of the 19th century. The same is still true today.

Now I am not saying that national security is not important...but the economy is MORE important because it is the engine of our military.

FIX the economy, and you WILL FIX the military and our national security.

Also, lets not forget the people who are struggling at home. Lots of pressure is being dumped on the middle class. The lower class is being forced out of necessities like health insurance. People are losing their homes at the highest rate in decades. You could drop the value of a dollar and a bowling ball from the empire state building and the value of the dollar would fall faster!! Wages are going up, but prices are going up even faster!

How can we expect to fix other nations when we cant even manage ourselves?

Lastly, our economy used to be the greatest in the world. Now we are being beaten out by Japan, and especially China!
Are we really moving into an age where a communist nation is the world superpower???
I hope not! We cannot let that happen.

Again...the cure???
Fix the economy! Pay more attention to domestic industry instead of international industry.

Fix the economy first!!!!
THEN fix national security.

...and yes Barack Obama is the man for the job!

Thanks and I look forward to a great debate!

Seeing as my opponent never once posted a rebuttal or established any kind of argument to back up his assertion that National Security should be the most important issue in the 2008 election, I cannot see how there could be any vote for PRO in the debate.
Thx for the debate Michaelp!
