VOLIENT VIDEO GAMES SHOULD BE BANNED

i think that they should banned vloient video games because many kids try and do the same thing that they do on the game and somtimes they get hurt or they hurt the others for and example grand theft auto they have people beatting up otheres for now reason and also have thing with them sellin drugs and all of that snd that get to som of the kids that have that game insteade of scool.

Your position is fairly clear; you believe that violent video games have a negative impact on children and society. I'm going to attack your premise on two fronts:

1. You have provided no evidence that video games cause children to prevent violent crimes. I have heard this claim made before, and seen one or two isolated examples of your point, but I have seen no statistical evidence to suggest that a child who plays Grand Theft Auto is more likely to commit violent crimes or enter the drug trade. If such a study exists, please, show it to me.

2. Even if you can show that violent video games have a negative impact on children, that still will not mean that they should be banned. It merely means that children should not be allowed to play them. However, this is already the case. Games with even a remote amount of violence, such as a 2D side scroller involving a small amount of blood (I'm thinking Castlevania as an example) are rated T (13+). A game such as Grand Theft Auto that involves guns, sex, drugs, or the like, automatically gets a rating of M (17+). Thus, violent video games are ALREADY banned for the audience in concern. If a 10 year old child buys an extremely violent game, it is the fault of the parent and child, not the game itself. So, to prove your point, you must either show that video games have a very negative impact on people 17 years of age or older (and even then, I'm willing to put up an argument against their banning), or that banning video games should be used to remedy negligible parenthood (And I'm definitely happy to put up an argument against this one, if that's what your proposing.)

Well, my opponent never got around to making any arguments. It wasn't exactly a very tenable position anyway.
