This debate will not be on whether or not ethical values exist(as I know there are quite a few moral nihilists on this site), nor will it be on whether or not utilitarianism is a rational, normative ethical doctrine. It will simply be on whether utilitarianism condemns speceisism.

I would like to apologize to both my opponent and the readers of this debate. My itouch, with which I make my videos on, is dead and my charger is at my mom's house. I won't be able to get to it until Monday at the earliest. I will ask my opponent to let the time run out of this round and then I will simply challenge him to a second 1 or 2 round debate to finish this up. Again, I apologize to my opponent and any readers of this debate.

Sure, thats true. I should have clarified, what I meant. In the context of utilitarianism, establishing a syllogism can prove a logical flow from premise to conclusion, but that does not make it in actuality correct. This would be true because conclusions from a utilitarian premise are flexible, and subject to radical change due to competing and interacting variables. So what I was saying was that the syllogism my opponent provided didnt necessarily prove that speciism is condemned by utilitarianism, just that it can be a logical conclusion that it might.

Con is absolutely incorrect in his observation against syllogisms. Syllogisms are not simply for displaying that something is incoherent. If the premises of a valid argument are sound, then the conclusion of the argument is absolutely true by necessity. This is chapter one logic and is to be found in any explanation of deductive arguments. A valid argument is an argument that has premises that lead into the conclusion. A sound argument is a valid argument with true premises. So IF the pro's syllogism is sound, then the conclusion follows by necessity.
