Video Games are too widely criticized for what goes on in the world today. There is no scientific proof that video games cause people to commit violent crimes, or other acts and things. I will willingly discuss (or debate) this with anyone who wishes to take part.
Let's start with what you stated first. You said he is addicted to these games, correct? Well, the parents should be the ones stepping in to help him. If that parent doesn't help him/her and takes the hurt, then that particular parent has failed in his/her duty to the child. Also, the fact he said "gorey things" does not mean he was influenced by video games; When I was a youngin', I would say mean things, as well, but it wasn't because I had played video games; it was simply because I was angry, but I got over it and moved on. When I was around three years old, I began my video game adventure. I have yet to commit any heinous acts or other acts of violence, and will I? No. In fact, these video games are what allowed me to meet new people and make new friends from all over the world. As I grew up, I was constantly addicted to gaming. However, my parents would step into the situation and take the games away from me. This method actually worked. Am I saying this would work for every parent? No. Every parent has a way to deal with this. As for the first part of your argument, if these video games cause violence, why am I hearing about fewer and fewer violence crimes? These video games are entertainment and are used as a means to escape reality. Also, I believe it is spelled gory*.
