(On a side note i'm just wondering if you feel very strong about the side you've chosen or not.)
For starters i have been playing violent video games for all my life and they have had no negative effect on me, and yes I do understand not everyone is like me, but my point is a violent video game will not cause harm to the person playing it, if anything it will be used as a stress relief. I find it odd when some parents will let their child watch r rated movies but not play a violent video game.( sorry for taking so long)

- I personally do not play video games, or feel overwhelmingly strongly about video games causing violence. On a side note :)

Now, to begin, the topic it self stated "Video games do not cause violence." Seeing as it did not specify criminal violence, or physical fights, I will go by the definition from Merriam-Webster, which is many things, the two most prevalent being either physical, harmful force, which means physical violence. [1] Another definition, however, is overwhelming feelings or acts of aggression. (This is paraphrased but the basic definition).
I am also, obviously, going to focus on the violent video games.

So, into my main arguments.

1. STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES DRAMATICALLY INCREASE AGGRESSION
The APA, or American Psychological Association has done many studies upon this idea. Afterwards, although they did not make any definite conclusions on the matter of physical violence, they determined that video games were a high risk factor for increased aggression. In other words, they are linked as causes to a type of violence. [2] They call this one of the "most well established [beliefs] in the field," meaning it is proven beyond reasonable doubt that these two things, violent video games and aggression, are inherently linked.

2. VIDEO GAMES AMPLIFY VIOLENT THOUGHTS
PBS one did a test, prior to that done by the APA, in which they determined that children who played more violent video games were thinking in a more "dark" mindset. [3] For instance, after playing a shooting game, people sat in a room for a few hours. Later they were given this "explo_e". While others who hadn't been playing this had about a 50/50 split between explore and explode, those who did play almost always chose explode to fill in the blank. Now, although this doesn't specifically indicate violent thoughts, it definitely shows something. Just think about it analytically. If you are thinking about explosions, you are probably more likely to do something violent. Such as causing an explosion. Now, I am not arguing that all people who play these games are going to become serial killers. But, even slightly higher risk of that still proves violence.

3. MANY MASS SHOOTERS/KILLERS HAVE AN OBSESSION WITH VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES
Now, this is not meaning that they solely killed from the result of The Call of Duty, just that it was/could have been a factor. [4]
In fact, 14 of the most well-known murderers played many violent video games, such as Doom and Mortal Kombat. (With a 'K') If that is something that has been seen so many times, it is hard to ignore. The pure idea is that these games aren't always just a place for people to let out their anger, it actually encourages that anger to be used. Psychology shows that if you use violence to get out anger, the feeling just increases and keeps coming, it never just runs out. So video games can cause and encourage this kind of behavior.

REFUTATIONS
Now, as my opponent said, video games haven't done anything to him, after playing it for all of his life. I have two responses. One, if you have been doing something for your entire life, you wouldn't know if it had changed you. And secondly, like stated by shamuuuuuuuuu9, not everyone is the same. If just a few people have become serial killers, or started a fight with a video game being some factor, then it is proven that they can indeed cause violence.
He also stated that it is stress relief. However, I have already stated that when you relieve stress with letting go of anger, it actually escalates. (reference argument #3).
And it doesn't matter if parents let children watch R movies, if the debate is about video games.

So, in conclusion, due to these reasons, that video games have and are proven to cause aggression and incentives physical violence, I strongly urge a Con vote. Thanks for your time!
