Videogames are not bad for children for they may also be used for educational purposes.
aiuk119

Pro

Video games are bad for children since though can be simulations, they are not accurate to real life situations. People may have varying responses to the method of education and it would be unhelpful with no real classroom environment where they can ask questions. This also may not be reliable method of teaching with technical issues, and there would be a decrease in human assistance.

You said in your first statement that videogames are simulators. Wich means you agree with me on that. Now that we got that out of the way, I will proceed to argue this: How children learn from videogames is pretty much like how a gamer is obssesed with looking for easter eggs within the game. Whst happens is the gamer sees something (a happening, a person etc.) wich the game claims to be in real life. The gamer then looks that up in a book or something then finds out the truth. Then the gamer is now inspired to search for knowledge.

I'm not sure if you noticed this, but not every gamer has the same search for knowledge. There will always be people who simply take pleasure in killing things and spending time on mindless things. Not every game is educational, some games are just strategy. Is strategy going to help a student pass their English exam or Algebra final? Video games are a simple pass time that could also prove negatively on younger children. Even though children shouldn't be playing M rated games there are many. There was once a six-year old child who played Assassin's Creed and Resident Evil, this child was suspended from his elementary school for threatening to kill one of his classmates. Children are young and impressionable, simulations will give them false ideas of what reality is really like. There will be situations in real life that will not match a video game story and what will people do then? There's no "pause" and "quit" and "restart" in real life. Children need to obtain a steady idea of reality and prepare for what matters, instead of having dreams of living in an RPG world. And people will not always have the same learning methods, video games may also not impact at all and the user will just be wasting time playing games.

A study conducted by Gentile, Lynch, Linder & Walsh -- "adolescent girls played video games for an average of 5 hours a week, whereas boys averaged 13 hours a week." The authors also stated that teens who play violent video games for extended periods of time: Tend to be more aggressive, are more prone to confrontation with their teachers, may engage in fights with their peers, and there is a visible decline in school achievements.

The fault is on me. I should not have taken the con side of this debate because there are already so many facts wich prove that video games are bad for kids.

foxthattrots, no offense but I'm gonna decline. It's just not that big of a deal to me. I like video games but it'd be nice to see America do something more useful. But that's not gonna happen. Not worth debating lol

Video gamess are bad for anyone. Obviously some can help with hand-eye coordination but it supports vioolence, rape, procrastination, waste of time, money, and life. Kids could be playing outside or reading books, Yes they are fun but so many people waste their money on games and game systems. like the Xbox1 and GTA5. Dont you people have anything better to do with your life than play video games and eat chips? Go out and atleast look for a job instead of telling yourself that there are none out there and that its ok to play video games for 12 hours and gain 200 pounds due to lazyness.

Reasons for voting decision: CONDUCT: to Pro dues to Con's forfeiture S&G: Con had some spelling errors. S&G to Pro. ARGUMENTS: Pro very clearly demonstrated the negative impact of video games on child behavior and intelligence and their inaccurate portrayal of reality. Even if none Pro's statements about ever-changing learning methods, mindlessness, etc. did not debunk Con's arguments about educational value, the possibility of a six-year-old playing Resident Evil or Assassin's Creed throws that benefit out the window. Arguments to Pro, SOURCES: Con's arguments were entirely subjective, whereas Pro cited a study conducted by experts. Sources to Pro.

Reasons for voting decision: I have to give it to Aiuk, but neither side was very convincing and neither side brought up much evidence. Not to mention a good number of rounds were missed.
