Con

First round for pro to start the argument.

(I say, no, they are not living organisms.)

Do you have any backup for your statements? Just curious.
I say that viruses, even if they can't reproduce, are indeed living, but not fully autonomous. They are not exactly "living things" and are dormant before they come into contact with humans. In fact, all viruses just evolve and adapt in different ways that broaden the range significantly.
This is a very gray area of facts, and there is little chance to paint this question i broad strokes, but I believe that viruses are semi-autonoumous but in fact living, just like the single-celled organisms, that, ya know, WE came from.

Con

That was just me identifying my stance and letting you go first.

So first, a basic Biology class- All living organisms must undergo all the life procceses! (movement, reproduction, stimulous-response/sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, respiration and growth)

So let's go down the list-
Movement- A virus cannot move itself
Reproduction- It cannot reproduce by its own means, only by taking over host cells (which does not count!)
Stimulous-response/sensitivity- Cannot respond to environment
Nutrition- They do not obtain or use energy
Excretion- Do not produce wastes
Respiration- Do not undergo respiration
Growth- Do not grow or develop

Hud4 23 & kdog519 16,
Are you trained in Microbiology? You should study the subject you are talking about before you submit your views otherwise people will dismiss you as an idiot, which I know you both are not.

In biology there is a debate about Viruses, as to whether they count as living or not.

"Germs" is a term for both viruses and bacteria, meaning they can make us sick, and of course bacteria are living! Viruses are living however!

NO need for me to post a website for you to refer to so maybe you will believe because I might die laughing first. Of course they are living, so is bacteria and germs . This is hilarious, of course they are living.
