Jack Del Rio was fired after a disappointing 6-10 season and only going 25-23 as head coach of the Raiders in 3 seasons. During that stretch they posted one winning season and one playoff appearance. Quickly after the release of Del Rio they announce that they have intentions of signing and did sign Jon Gruden for a 10 year/$100 million deal. My position is that it is a great hire by the Oakland Raiders, because Gruden has had several years to reflect and still remain close to the game through various projects like MNF and Gruden's QB camp. He has even worked with all three of the QB's on the roster in those segments getting to know and analyze their games and personalities. He is all about offense and during the lengthy time away I'm sure Gruden still keeps his eyes on all the new offensive styles. He has expanded his playbook exponentially over this time with new schemes and plays since his last head coaching job.

Jon Gruden is one of the most popular men in the NFL and has become a great personality and character. He can be strict and sometimes down right mean to the players, but you know he wants to win the game. He wants to make them better. You can see in the QB camp he is tough on those guys but he tries to improve them as players like Carson Wentz who thanks to Gruden uses two hands to grab the ball when he drops back and moves in the pocket. He had a ton of fumbles in his college days and he has improved that upon entering the NFL. I know Gruden probably won't last the whole 10 years, but you know he will at least stay and transition the team from Oakland to Las Vegas. He will draw more attention to Oakland and he will have his players ready to take the burden of that. He does have his work cut out for him but they have a solid base of a roster. They had injuries that derailed previous seasons and that can ruin a season easily. Gruden really never got the chance to work with a quarterback that has superstar potential, but Derek Carr has the arm, drive, and smarts to listen to Gruden and get his game to the next level. 8-8 won't be good enough for Gruden and the window is wide open for him to motivate his players to jump through. The Chargers always start slow, falling short in close game after close game. The Chiefs have a quarterback situation brewing and Andy Reid has Super Bowl caliber coaching, but poor decision making haunts him and hot streaks in a season are good, but they had stretches of being the worse looking team in the AFC. Finally, you have the Broncos who have a pretty good defense, but you must score to win games. One draft isn't going to fix the problems those teams currently have, but Gruden can fix the issues the Raiders had in this season easily. He's already got a good man for the defense. Paul Guenther, former Bengals DC, is known by many is a evil genius of making defensive schemes and plays. This fits in with Gruden's style perfectly. He had the Bengals defense playing great at times, but the players would let him down with their actions. He won't have that problem in Oakland as the issue players come on the offensive side of the ball. I don't expect Gruden to keep Marshawn Lynch unless he plays by his rules and thinks before he does certain actions. Like running on the field and pushing a ref when your team is on defense meaning that he had no reason to even be on the field. Furthermore, you have no right to put your hands on an official. Those types of penalties show that certain players don't have the mental capabilities to maintain focus and a professional demeanor. Gruden will have a pretty tight ship and I expect Gruden is the only one yelling and putting his hands on an official and maybe even his players. Oakland Raiders don't want to see Chucky, but he can lead a team to some victories and a potential Super Bowl run as early as next season.

The contract is pretty long. But they only giving him like 10 million a year that actually not that bad at all. Now for the years yeah 10 years is pretty long. But overall i think its a good hire..
