Personally I think the voters got it right with Josh Donaldson due to the sheer dominance of his season and although him and Trout were similar in all major stats, I think being a major reason why a team broke a 22 year playoff drought puts him over the top
Yes, he did lead them to the playoffs, but this kind of came out of nowhere. He never was an MVP candidate before this. In Oakland the year before his MVP season, he batted .255 . That is not good. He got very lucky being traded to the Blue Jays. The trade almost never happened. If he had still been on the A's, he would not win. This is purely situational. His RBI's are inflated from playing with Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki, all very good players who also contributed majorly to the playoff appearence. Toronto also had a great pitching staff led by David Price. His MVP was purely situational.
