I believe that America made a good decision by electing a black president? Though many people have their opinions about how bad they think Obama has been in office, I disagree. No matter who was elected in office it was going to be very hard for them to get us out of the situation that we were in. America allowed Bush to be in office for 2 full terms even though we were almost in a depression, which the next president had to try to get us out of. Seeing as the direction America was headed, President Obama has got us through it. America may not like all the decisions that have been made such as requiring everyone to have healthcare but it is meant to help us in the long run. I also find it hard to believe that he is doing as bad as people say, seeing as they voted him in office for a second term. He must be doing something right.

I don't think this country was ready for a black president. The disrespect that he endures on a regular basis is unreal! He has done some amazing things for this country including the Healthcare Reform Act but the fact that his presidency came on the heels of President Bush meant things were going to be hard for him out the gate. Some would say the fact that President Obama was elected to a second term merely happened because there was no better candidate running for office at that time. I think theses last eight years would have been a lot easier for the person in office had the President not been a black man. Not knocking the President personally but just the world we live in right now.

It may be true that America was not ready for a black president but I don't believe that gives people the right to put President Obama down. I wish everyone that has something negative to say could put their self in his shoes to understand the struggle of not only being a president but also being a black president. It is hard for me to understand what are in the minds of people that believe a white president could do better than our current situation knowing that a white president put us in the predicament that we are still trying to get out of. Though President Obama may not have kept all his promises that he made before he was elected but what president has, everyone knows that politics are nothing but empty promises. With that being said President Obama still bettered this country more than harmed it which is more than we can say for our last president.

I feel that because the country wasn't ready it put people in a space where they had to deal with something never before dealt with and maybe never again will be dealt with. For those that don't believe a black man has any place in such a powerful position disrespect is inevitable and doubt is a given. No matter what President Obama does it will never be good enough for the people who still believe he isn't supposed to be there. It's easier to blame the black guy that you don't like than to accept that the white guy before him really put this country in a bad spot. This country was not ready.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct - Tie. Both debaters forfeited the final round, thus neither deserve this point. S&G - Tie. Both had minor spelling and grammar errors but neither more so than the other. Arguments - Pro. Con built a case around the country not being ready for him as a reason for his election being bad. Pro overcame that by stating that Obama has achieved more good than harm while president, while Con himself acknowledged his good deeds. Con never rebutted this point, and thus left Pro standing unchallenged in that respect before both forfeited the debate. With these points in mind, Pro wins. Sources - Tie. Neither utilized sources in this debate.
