Do you believe in freedom and your rights as a citizen of the United States of America? The U.S. has 27 amendments that give the citizens certain rights. There is one amendment that is on the path to being taken away. The second amendment states that "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." There has been lots of discussion about this right. Do you think that the government should be playing around with our rights that have been in place for hundreds of years? Does the banning of guns and extreme gun control go against our rights as a U.S. citizen?
WE believe that there should be very limited gun control. A Law abiding citizen should not have guns taken away from them. They are a huge importance to american culture and history. This world would not be the same without them. Yes, Gun violence is bad and lives are taken every year because of shootings. It isn't the gun that kills people. Car accidents kill 10 times as many people every year and we are not considering banning cars. Why take something away from somebody that hasn't done anything wrong?
I do believe that guns are a huge part of American Culture but lately they have made an impact on our lives in a very negative way. One hundred people die in America each year from gun violence! That is two hundred eighty nine people every day. That does not account for all the deaths in America but just imagine if we could save 100,000 people a year. It is estimated that around 1 million kids have brought a gun to school at least once this year! The pre-frontal cortex is in charge of decision making and none of these kid's pre-frontal cortexes are done developing. Therefore none of these adolescents are going to make educated thought-out decisions when carrying these guns. We are hurting ourselves by allowing guns in America. If you argue, "well it is in the constitution" then the response I will give you is no where in the constitution does it say that gay people can't marry yet we deny them that civil right so why can't we change the constitution to make a few improvements to our society.
Yes I agree it is terrible how many people have been put in bad situations because of gun violence but it still isn't right to take the privilege of owning guns away from law abiding citizens. In the long run it is hurting them. Marijuana is illegal in almost all states but it still seems very common in the black market and it really isn't that hard for people to get it if they want to. Making something illegal creates an urge to get that object even more. Guns will be passed through the black market and criminals will easily get them. What do we do when the criminals have guns and now law abiding citizens are defenseless. Analysis of past shootings shows that places that guns are prohibited have been the target for shooters. People that carry handguns actually scare off the shooter a little or at least make him more hesitant. This was one of the first amendments created and is pretty important. We cant let the government keep taking away rights because soon we won't have any.
Thanks for commenting!
It is very true that the black market would just sell guns anyway. That is a valid point but you can only control so much. If you make guns illegal than we would be taking a step in the right direction. Sure there will be tons of citizens that just go ahead and buy them off of the black market but, if these are what you call "law abiding citizens" than they would not be break the law in the first place. Also if we were to ban guns, schools would crack down and increase the level security they have because kids could purchase them off of the black market easier. This would result in less school violence. You could also argue that we need guns because what if we need to revolt against the government at some point in the future. I would simply dispute that buy saying that we have 2,271,475 soldiers in the military that would fight for freedom above anything else!
Yes i understand that we have a strong military and it wouldn't be that difficult for a military takeover. But we are only considering one aspect about gun control. We have to look at all the things that taking away guns would do. First of all it is till an ammendment and taking away one amendment could lead to more rights being taken away. We could lose the freedom of speech, we could go back into slavery, or we might not have any more privacy what so ever. How can citizens live like that? It could turn into a totalitarian leadership. Yes I know that we have a problem with gun violence but we have problems with everything. It isn't the guns that are causing problems it is the people using them. we can't have the government in complete control of everybody.
Guns are used for a lot of good things too. We have a lot of hunters in the US. We need them to keep the population of wildlife from raising too high. What do we do when there are deer all over the road causing more accidents? Money and lives could be at stake.
