We push some thoughts out into unconsciousness; thereby, we can deceive ourselves.

The unconscious mind is mother to all thoughts, for thoughts arise from it into being. One does not push certain, say unwanted, thoughts BACK into unconsciousness, from whence they already came, in order to "deceive ourselves" ---- not possible. These thoughts instead are buried within the folds of one's personality and will be rediscovered repetitively throughout ones life.

Do you think unconsciousness is predetermined and unchanged?

What means "these thoughts"?

Let me explain further, Freud split the human personality into three parts; id, ego, and super ego. The symbiotic trinity all individual, yet together, is what produces the tormented mind of a human being. The unnamed unconscious mind, is the other side of the coin, so to speak, of id, ego, and super ego, all predetermined in the same sense that your body and brain were predetermined by your genetic makeup in the womb.

The unconscious mind is alive and alert, even when you are piloting your body for a time. However, when you sleep the unconscious mind will tell you things in the process of dreams, that your conscious mind was either unaware of, or rationality blind to. In your dreams, archetypes replace the resolution of consciousness. Thoughts and or observations about yourself, obtained from the unconscious mind, by the conscious trinity of your being, cannot be returned. They will stay with you for life because the thought is a part of you, that you are unaware exists.

I used 'unconsciousness' not in Freud's sense, but in a broad sense, which is 'the state of being uninformed or unaware' ("definition of unconsciousness").

The following is one of the many examples explaining my thesis. "People are unrealistically optimistic even when the stakes are high. About 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, and this is a statistic most people have heard. But around the time of the ceremony, almost all couples believe that there is approximately a zero percent chance that their marriage will end in divorce-even those who have already been divorced! (Thaler and Sunstein 32)"
