There are 3 types of weapons; auto, semi auto and single shot.
1. AUTOMATIC: Loud, messy and ammunition wasting monsters. They have considerable recoil and variable power levels. Good for spraying crowds of zombies, enemies or rioters.
2. SEMI AUTOMATIC: My choice, good for power, accuracy and recoil. Though the volume of shots isn't good, a few well placed ones can hurt just as much as an entire clip from an Auto.
3. SINGLE SHOT: Also called bolt action, these weapons need to be recocked and/or reloaded. Slow, but good for power shots.
SEMI IS BEST!

Ah, one of my favorite topics.

Obviously I feel that each one is more appropriate depending on the situation. However, in the spirit of debate, I believe that full-auto is the best. Why? I'm glad you asked.

"1. AUTOMATIC: Loud, messy and ammunition wasting monsters. They have considerable recoil and variable power levels. Good for spraying crowds of zombies, enemies or rioters."

Yes, FA's are loud. Yes, they can be messy. No, they do not waste ammunition. The gunner does, not the machine. Are they good for large area targets? Yes. Are they just as effective against point targets? Yes. (To clarify an area target is a group of enemy combatants or a large vehicle, while a point target is a single person or other small, single target).

The proper tactical use of an FA is as a suppression weapon. That is, it is meant to throw a wall of lead that forces the enemy to take cover. An enemy that is ducking cannot return fire and can be flanked by another team.

*Ahem*

Before I begin, I would like to announce that Burst Fire is considered SEMI AUTO!

Now, SA weapons are good for powerful shots to concentrated areas. You can just shoot or pick off individual targets before shooting the -insert thing that explodes here-!

Primarily, the advantage of SA is that you can handle both long and close range conflicts. It's also good for sniping fire and guerrilla warfare.

While SA weapons include RIFLES, they also include SHOTGUNS. (SPAS-12)

Either way, Semi-Auto is better for both situations.

Got to go sorry!

Pro's states that the primary advantage of semi is that it "can handle both long range and close range conflists, its also good for sniping fire and guerrilla warfare."

FA "can handle" all of the above. Long range? .50 caliber M2, my personal favorite and the gun I sat behind frequently in Iraq, has a maximum effective range of 1.2 miles.

The 249 better known as the SAW is often placed either 1st or 2nd in the stack when clearing a room.

AK47 "When you absolutely, positively, have to kill every motherf***** in the room" - Samuel L. Jackson.

Sniping? http://en.wikipedia.org...

Carlos Hathcock used an M2 with a scope and made several kills in excess of a 1,000 yards, including his personal best of 2,500 yards.

Con rests.

Not that it changes anything in the debate, but I would argue, burst qualifies as auto. Full automatic weapons are often fired in bursts - wheter 3 rds or longer.
If there are guns with "burst" fire mode, it often replaces FA, but never the SA.

Reasons for voting decision: The character limit was too low and two round is not enough for a really good debate. Con made the best of it, even squeezing in a reference.

Reasons for voting decision: Con cited his personal expiriences and listed a source. Its the way one uses the weapon that makes ammo loss wasteful or not, and automatics offer a greater diverstiy of tactics.
