When students at schools try to search for reliable information on their computers for assignments, many websites are blocked so that their are limited places to find information. So, schools should take off many restrictions.

Con

Web filters are put in place to keep students on task and to protect the expensive hardware for viruses that many websites may contain. I understand that some useful sites may be accidentally blocked, but if that single website is so valuable than the student could easily look at that site at home.

While many kids may have access to information at home, other kids may not have the luxury. Their only option is at school. you might think that those children could go somewhere with public access to computers, but if their home does not have a computer, they might not be able drive to a place like that.
On the subject of viruses affecting expensive hardware there are many programs that you can download, that can detect viruses on webpage or websites. So, schools could those rather than taking students information away completely.
