People abuse welfare too much. People are taking it for granted. They use there food stamps for unhealthy foods, or sell them for things like drugs and alcohol. I think about 80% of the people with welfare shouldn't have it. They're saying "Oh i can't work" when in reality they are perfectly capable. It's not fair to the hard working people who work for the money and pay there taxes AND care for their children. All of their tax money is being spent on people who won't work.

You are generalizing which is often wholly inaccurate. There will always be someone who will abuse a certain privilege, regardless of it's intentions. Of course some people on welfare take advantage of it but it is still our duty as a country to uphold our values and instead of depriving those whom are on welfare solely because a small percentage of people are selfish.

Welfare is helping some people, while some people don't need it, but make use of it.
Why does this mean it should be got rid of?

Yes, I was a little confused too. I decided to try to steer the debate in a certain direction.

So what is your thesis exactly? Some people abuse welfare? 80% abuse welfare? Welfare should be abandoned? Please specify
