The Westboro Baptist Church should not be protected under the first amendment. They are misusing their rights by not considering others when they protest against the funerals of the soldiers who died in the war, the homosexuals, who have their right to be homosexual. (1)
The Westboro Baptist Church should be protected. While they do protest against some very insensitive things, they still have the right to do so, as guaranteed by the Constitution. By limiting their 1st amendment rights, the U.S congress/Supreme court would be setting a precedent that could be very dangerous in the future; the Government could use this as a stepping stone to further limit the rights of citizens and/or other groups by denying them the rights to speech or the right to assemble, depending on the will of the government.
