pro: The sound is like this.
con: No! its like this!

clapping doesn't necessarily mean the average sound, the definition is meant to be loose

by flicking your wrist and making your fingers touch your plam, you can make a sound of one hand clapping
petersaysstuff

Con

Definition:
Clapping: "applause: a demonstration of approval by clapping the hands together"[1]

On hand cannot clap because the act of clapping requires two hands. Done. Vote Con.

Pro

let me rephrase my previous argument from "clapping doesn't necessarily mean the average sound, the definition is meant to be loose" to "clapping doesn't necessarily mean the average clapping sound, the definition is meant to be loose in this debate"
petersaysstuff

Con

So you are ignoring the actual definition. This is pointless. If we can change definitions to meet our desires how will our society end up?

Pro

all right, debates over, we should have a debate saying that a loose definition is not a different definition
petersaysstuff

Con

Clarification would have been in order.

Reasons for voting decision: This wasn't meant to be a definition debate, it was meant to be a discussion of sound and its characteristics. I vote PRO because CON made an argument that is entirely composed of shame and fail.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro did not clarify on what clapping was and con provided a definition which makes one hand clapping impossible.

Reasons for voting decision: If you want to use a "loose definition" you should provide a "loose definition" in your OP. If you don't define the words, then you are leaving it open to your opponent to define them.
