I believe that the judge should have looked into the case further to see the truth in whole case and let Troy Davis walk like they let Amanda Knox walk

Hello, This is my very first debate, I do not know much about the topic but I am aware of the media uproar that ensued to know the basics of what happened.

Troy Davis was convicted of killing a cop, the evidence was circumstantial and DNA evidence was NOT used in the case... He sat on death row for quite some time and despite numerous appeals from his lawyers he was executed for the killing...

Troy Davis should not die because for 1 he was acused of killing police officer Mark McPhail in 1989. As u said there was no DNA evidence to prove that he did. He was later executed on Sep. 21, 2011 at Georgia Diagnostics Prison at 11:08 by lethal injection.

Not all cases need DNA evidence to suggest or prove that a particular person committed a particular crime. The Crime he was executed for occurred in Savannah Georgia where Davis assaulted a man with a pistol and officer Mark MacPhil tried to intervene. 7 witnesses claim to have watched Davis shoot officer MacPhil in the heart and face while he was unarmed, and two other witnesses later came forth claiming that Davis had confessed committing the crime.

Apart from witnesses, Ballistic evidence was recovered from the crime scene that also implicated Davis. The evidence linked bullet casings found at the scene matched other casings that were involved in another shooting in which Davis was ALSO a suspect. In fact Davis was later found guilty for BOTH shootings.

The Defense claimed that since the murder weapon was never found and that DNA evidence was never found were why he should be freed. But Only the Supreme Court can authorize the use of DNA evidence in cases that happened before it became commonly practiced. The Court denied the petition, along with many others, and Davis was then executed....

lol kohai, the people actually qualified to make that decision disagree with you. You want to bet n you knowing more about the case than the Jury and the Board of Paroles and pardons for the state of Georgia?

Con just stated the facts. I believe I can easily win this debate, but I am con. Con, point out the fact that there is overwhelming evidence he is innocent.

"Should" or "should not" debates are (in my opinion) futile.

I (for one) enjoy a good debate on the merits of the death penalty... But not when they are framed like this. :[

Change your position. You're Pro that he should have been executed, but your opening is against it.

Reasons for voting decision: Wasn't Troy Davis found guilty of attempted murder? He shot some guy in the face. The only thing people mention is the murder of the cop. Both sides use poor arguments. I'll give Pro one point for conduct, because Con forfeited.

Reasons for voting decision: Con forfeited; by default, a point of conduct goes to Pro. Pro appeared to have shot himself in the foot by noting that there was no DNA evidence to implicate Troy Davis, but he quickly rescued himself by noting that a) DNA evidence is not always needed b) other incriminating evidence was present....Con could have argued about the unreliability of eyewitness accounts, though...but he didn't.
