I really think it was the egg. Maybe it was like a mutation starting from a plant seed, eventually becoming a chicken egg which hatched and out popped a chicken, or whatever else comes out of an egg which eventually mutated into a chicken.

So my main point is the egg was first. And possibly through several changes such as mutations and adaptations became a chicken.

I truly do not know why I started this debate. So who thinks it was the chicken?

It is an age-old riddle that has perplexed generations: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?I believe it was the chicken.
British scientists claim to have finally come up with the definitive answer that it was the feathery bastard.
The scientific and philosophical mystery was purportedly unraveled by researchers at Sheffield and Warwick universities, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
The scientists found that a protein found only in a chicken's ovaries is necessary for the formation of the egg, according to the paper Wednesday. The egg can therefore only exist if it has been created inside a chicken.
The protein speeds up the development of the hard shell, which is essential in protecting the delicate yolk and fluids while the chick grows inside the egg, the report said.
"It had long been suspected that the egg came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first," said Dr. Colin Freeman, from Sheffield University's Department of Engineering Materials, according to the Mail.
"The protein had been identified before and it was linked to egg formation, but by examining it closely we have been able to see how it controls the process," he said.

Scientists, and logic have both proved that the egg came first. There were animals (dinosaurs) that layed eggs before chickens, and those animals slowly evolved into chicken.

It looks like Pro has a weight evidence for the chicken as first. His evidence is pure science.

I think this proves the stance of the Fundamentalists.

If you are an atheist who believes in evolution then basically the egg comes first ( not fully formed chicken but is in the process of becoming it).

If you are a Fundamentalist Christian who believes in Genesis chapter 1 as inspired and infallible then without controversy the chicken comes first ( fully formed as created by God. Humans also were created fully formed. Adam wasn't created a fertilized egg but a fully grown man).

Based on evolution, neither one would be first, it would just constantly evolve into a mor chicken-like animal.
