I would have to choose the burglars. Sure there's 10 of them and 2 of innocent people, those two people have no reason to die. For the sake of argument, imagine the burglars as breaking into homes stealing valuable items 5 women and 5 men, and the 2 innocent people are both adults who are average people, one woman and one man.

My opponent has started this vague debate and I'll show you why he's wrong.

1st off he stated that it would be two innocent people. Who are these people? We don't know. Since my opponent has failed to describe these people we can see that these people might be innocent, but contribute nothing to society and do nothing but sit around and collect welfare checks all day. Or perhaps they obstruct justice in another way. Besides pro has only said that they are innocent people, but hasn't said in what way they are innocent nor defined innocence. Thus showing how it is impossible for him to debate this resolution.

These ten robbers have been convicted, but pro did not say weather or not they had actually committed the crime. A study done has show that there are hundreds of thousands of innocent people in prison currently. ( http://www.truthinjustice.org...) Since pro has not said weather or not they actually did the crime we have to assume they are innocent and in the US there is a slogan of innocent until Provence guilty. When you also apply the philosophy of utilitarianism to this resolution it is better that the two people who do nothing for society die instead of ten who were just wrongly convicted. Also pro did not state the country that they were convicted in. In Saudi Arabia you can be grabbed off the streets and torture until you admit to a crime you may not have committed. Thus showing another flaw in Pro's arguments.

I don't agree with the Con argument. The Pro stated 10 burglars. This does not mean that they were even arrested for their crimes so the statistics about innocent people dying in prison does not affect the debate. But we know they committed the crimes because that is how they are labeled. Burglars They have broken the law.

These terms I do not feel need defining. But here they are:
Burglar: a person who commits burglary.
Burglary: entry into a building illegally with intent to commit a crime, especially theft.
Innocent: not guilty of a crime or offense.

Since one side is a burglar, or breaker of the law, we can ascertain the "innocent" mentioned has not broken the law in any way.

The argument that they do nothing for society and are parasites to the economy is irrelevant. You then are approaching the territory of "people who are not useful to society should be put to death."

There is no country specified therefore punishments by law are inadmissible, as are the acts of specific countries on crime. We only know that they have committed these crimes.

This is a moral question stating who you think should be allowed to live in society: ten people who have committed a crime, or two people who have not committed a crime.

This is an insufficient example on which to base any kind of reasoned decision.
