Whereas it might not be surprising that Stylist magazine listed the likes of Charlotte Olympia Dellal, a shoe designer, as one of the UK"s 25 most successful women perhaps it comes as a shock to hear that the first programmer in the world was actually female (Ada Lovelace).

The IT industry is renowned for being one of the most male dominated sectors and in the UK women account for a mere 14.4% of computing professionals. Furthermore research reveals that women currently hold only 20% of senior management positions globally, with even less representation across management roles in the IT industry.

But why are women under-represented in the IT industry? Could it be due to the significance of certain gender stereotypes that may also be associated with that of the "geeky IT professional", for example, or perhaps women are being deterred from a career in IT, or finding success within the IT industry challenging, for other reasons?

Your resolution is a "why" question, therefore making it unclear what position you are taking.

There are no clear pro or con sides for this. However, there is a forum section I would reccomend you take this discussion to.
