I don't understand how Christians can be so defensive about a book most haven't read or even if they have they don't know anything about the origins of the religion. They blindly use "faith" as their argument because it's an easy cop out when real evidence exposes the fact that what they have "faith" in is so clearly just a repeat of earlier religions. Not to mention the constant contradictions and fallacies in their scripture.

I propose the question and you are against it.

It was a misunderstanding on my part I agree with the statements that I posted in the original post.

You stated no views in the original post, only incoherent rants.

Your right, it was an incoherent rant of an angry person trying to make sense of human ignorance. It was not a worthy start to a logical debate. I appreciate the criticism and will make a clear argument and position next time before I rant. Any suggestions on how to start a good debate to try and talk to people about what makes them believe in things because of faith alone?

My opponent conceded.

"Any suggestions on how to start a good debate to try and talk to people about what makes them believe in things because of faith alone?"

Word a resolution such:

"Christians hold strong beliefs on a book they know nothing about."

Argue PRO. Given that your opponent is earnestly debating, you will be able to ascertain how much knowledge goes into "faith".

You will lose such a debate, because most Christians know "something" about the Bible. Therefore, I would actually word the resolution thus:

"Christians hold strong beliefs on a book they do not know enough about"

Then the debate will center around the word "enough".

I asked you out of curiosity why you went second if you proposed the debate question. simply saying because he went first is an obvious answer and a cocky one.

Never mind, because I am not interested further.

Messy debate anyway.

Yeah obviously, but I thought the person who creates the debate goes first. Don't get cocky.

I don't understand, then why did you get to go second?

Johnlubba I , as pro, was the one asking it.

Damn right it's a loaded question and a valid question in my opinion.

The bible is one of the most complex books on the planet, people have faith in it without knowing it's full history or even how it was compiled.

Most Christians think Matthew, Mark Luke and John wrote the four gospels, little do they know.

This is a loaded question, and falls into the rants and raves category, to keep to yourself.

"Why do Christians hold such strong beliefs?" would be a reasonable forum topic.

"Christians know nothing about their holy book." would be a debate topic, albeit one you'd almost certainly lose, as most Christians know something about the bible.
