Con

Since the Pro has forfeited the first round, I suppose I'll be defining the resolution.

The Con interprets the resolution as meaning that people should stop practices that cause pollution, since arbitrarily stopping all pollution is impossible.

Contention 1: Impossible to "stop polluting"

Humans have been polluting since the stone age and will into the future. By creating disposable items for survival we will create waste--and that waste is our pollution. On a more recent note, pollution is happening in new ways--chemicals and emissions being the most common topics.

However, unless a boundless and waste-free energy source is discovered, there will always be waste. In order to "stop polluting", humanity would have to cease existing. The Pro standpoint is illogical.

Contention 2: Good things have pollution

The Oil and Gas industry is ripped on for causing so much pollution. But that industry employs millions of Americans, reduces our dependence on foreign oil, and allows life as we know it to continue. The ambulance that took you to the hospital? It polluted. That medicine you took to save your life? Was made in a polluting factory that has to dispose of with chemical waste.

The basic idea of the Con side is that the good accomplished by polluting outweighs the bad.

Try to make your topic a statement rather than a question. For example, you might say "People should stop polluting" and take either a "Pro" or "Con" side. Otherwise, the debate becomes confusing.

Also, you might want to be more specific than saying "people." It might make more sense to have a specific scenario in mind. Obviously (I think?) polluting is in general a bad thing; however, the part that is more debatable in my opinion is real life scenarios. Should we value not pollution even when doing so would make energy prices more expensive? Or puts humans out of work? Thus, you might want to consider specifying the debate to "fracking" or "coal consumption" or the like.
