The Atlanta Falcons will beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. They are a younger, faster, and better team than the Patriots. The Falcons are hungry for a Super Bowl Title. They have a better offense and a better defense. The Patriots will come to play like they always do, but this time they will fall short.

Offense:

Falcons Rank 2
Patriots Rank 4

Defense:

Falcons Rank 25
Patriots Rank 8

The Patriots offense was better that that of the Packers, despite not having Tom Brady, the team's starting quarterback, for 4 games. In those games even the second string quarterback got injured resulting in he third string quarterback to have to start. In his 2 games, Jacoby Brissett did not throw a single touchdown, and got shut out once. Because of this, and Tom Brady's performance in the last 12 games, it is reasonable to conclude that Tom Brady would have put up more points in these games. The final season offensive stats for the Patriots do not accurately reflect the offenses performance now that they have Brady. They averaged 30.583 points per game while Brady was the quarterback, only 3.3 points less than the Falcons, and 4 points higher than the season total, when this is coupled with the fact that Atlanta gave up an average of 25.4 points per game, as opposed to the Patriots 15.6, the Patriots are likely to put up a high score against the Falcons.

Second is the Falcons' defense. Their defense was praised in this post-season, however the praise was unmerited. They had to play the Seahawks, who were missing one off their star punt returners and wide receivers, and much like the Giants, relied on their defense this season. Also the Packers, though they were hot, looking at 2 of their last 3 games, they started off slow. The Packers, despite not putting up a single point in the first half, managed to put up 21 points in the second half. This shows that the defense is not very capable of playing at a high level when the opposing team is playing well, and if Brady is able to start off stronger than Rodgers, the Patriots will plow through the defense. With the additions of Bennett and Blount, the Patriots will be able to wear out the Falcons' defense faster than the Packers as well.

Third is the Patriots defense, which gave up the least points per game in the NFL. To say that the Falcons have a better defense is far misstated. Because of this defense, the Falcons will have a much harder time putting points up against the Patriots, than the Patriots will have against the Falcons. This will put more pressure on Matt Ryan as he will have to out-perform Brady to maintain the same score, and with it being Ryan's first Superbowl, the added pressure will definitely be felt. Though he might have motivation to win the Superbowl, he is entering a territory where no person in NFL history is more familiar than Tom Brady, who will want to get his 5th ring to cement himself as the single greatest of all time. This coupled with the drive to spite Rodger Goodell after the 4 game suspension allows for more than enough drive for the Patriots and Tom Brady.

The Patriots offense was better than that of the Packers, because the Eddie Lacy and James Starks were injured. Ty Montgomery became their running back but took a few weeks to adjust. The Packers then had to rely mostly on the passing game.

The Falcons defense held the Seahawks, who were 10th ranked in offense, to 225 passing yards.
Also the Falcons defense held to Packers, who were 8th ranked in offense, to 287 passing yards.

The Falcons defense is lower in ranking because in their division they play the number 1 ranked offense twice (New Orleans Saints), the 18th ranked offense twice (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and the 19th ranked offense twice (Carolina Panthers). The Patriots defense is higher in ranking because in their division they play the 16th ranked offense (Buffalo Bills), the 24th ranked offense (Miami Dolphins), and the 26th ranked offense (NY Jets)

The Super Bowl will definitely be a battle, but the Falcons superior offense, younger team, and skilled defense will win for the 3rd time this postseason.

In his 71 attempts, Eddie Lacy only rushed for 360 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Ty Montgomery, with only 6 more attempts, rushed for 457 and averaged 5.9 yards per carry. The Packers had better results both in record and in run efficiency with Montgomery. This shows that the running game was not the reason the Packers had a worse offense, as with Montgomery, the Packers were more efficient.

The Seahawks were dealing with a injured Russell Wilson, and were missing Tyler Lockett, who had the 3rd most receiving yards on the team despite having less than half the receptions that Doug Baldwin, the leading receiver, had. He was tied for second on yards per reception with 14.6, and was their primary kick/punt returner. Also as I stated last time, Rodgers has been starting slow, and his best receiver had broken ribs.

Even if the Falcons are playing against top offenses, it does not excuse 25.6 points per game. Also, if that statistic is skewed because they play good offenses, the Patriots are the number 4 offense, meaning that they would be on of the ones to skew the results.

The Patriots have experience in the Superbowl, being in seven within the last 17 years has greatly benefited their preparation and eased their nerves. This will allow the Patriots to be the calmer team on the field. The Falcon's youth could be a drawback as nerves would kick in worse for the younger players who have never played in a Superbowl. They only have a slightly better offense and a much worse defense, and this will allow Brady and the Patriots' offense to be more calm and less rushed on the field. The Falcons will be nervous as a result of their bad defense, which will allow the Patriots to score and put more pressure on the Superbowl rookie offense of the Falcons.

Julio Jones got 67 yards and 1 touchdown against Richard Sherman, who is a more respected and more skilled corner than Malcolm Butler. Julio Jones will have to be double teamed if he is going to be blocked, which will open up different receivers. This will cause the Patriots to cover the pass more often which will open up the running game for the Falcons. In this case it will not be easier to score for the Patriots.

The Patriots starting team is actually not that more experienced than the Falcons. There are only 13 returning players from Super Bowl 49. There is plenty of inexperience on the Patriots team.

Thank you for debating me, and giving me a challenge.

The skill of the individual corner does not matter, it is how the defense is set up. The Patriots managed to hold Antonio Brown, who has been just as good as Julio Jones, to 77 yards but no touchdowns. Though it will open up the area for other receivers, the Patriots have been good at minimizing big plays. This will force the Falcons to score in the red zone, where there is less room to move the ball around, and unless the Falcons can survive on field goals, the Patriots will out-score them.

Related to the topic of defensive coverage, how the Falcons cover the Patriots will be much the same. Between Hogan, Bennett, and Edelman the Patriots have ball mobility as well. This will open up Dion Lewis to catch passes out of the backfield and Blount to run through the open box. If it comes down to which defense can hold ball mobility to a minimum, the Patriots defense is much more capable.

Lastly there are 23 Patriots players who have played in a previous Superbowl, where Atlanta only has 4. There is a vast gap in the experience between the two teams.

I would like to thank my opponent of the debate as well. Of course none of us know who will win, but it is fun to make predictions.
