Games like Fallout, Skyrim, and GTA have gotten enough pull from the playerbase to begin to challenge the FPS genre. The FPS genre primarily consists of games like Battlefield, Halo, and Call of Duty. These three games alone have enormous pull, both from the player base, the MLG, and the social media. These game shave both been around for several years, coming out in the earl 21st century. However, I believe that the FPS genre is a better genre. There is a huge player base, massive gaming franchises, most notably, ACTIVISION's Call of Duty. CoD has been leading the gaming market since 2007, along with the slightly smaller Halo and Battlefield. But the FPS genre offers more than just the huge franchises. Team Fortress 2, by Valve came out some years ago and is still played by a sizable number of people. All of these games have heavily devoted fan bases. I have yet to meet someone who can own an RPG without needing an FPS when the get bored. FPS games, however, keep people on their toes. Fast reflexes and hand-eye coordination are needed to play. RPG's provide fun until the campaign runs out and the multi-player gets old. FPS games provide years of endless possibilities.

My opponent sources no statistics and offers only opinions and personal experiences, and so I have nothing I need to refute.

Data
The FPS is declining, as clearly evidenced by CoD Ghosts and Battlefield 4, both the biggest in the FPS industry. CoD Ghosts made 250 million dollars, 50% of the year's previous title, Black Ops 2[1][2]. Battlefiled 4 sales are down 69% compared to Battlefield 3 sales[2].

Now if we go over to the other side, and look at the leading titles in the RPG industry, we see who's winning already. The Elder Scrolls series has seen an increase of approximately 640%, in regards to copies sold, from Oblivion to Skyrim[3][4].

The Fallout series has also seen a growth[5][6] and both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas have individually made more of a profit than CoD Ghosts.

This statistically shows a decline in FPS popularity, a rise in RPG popularity, and that the big RPG titles are already beating the big FPS titles.

Thanks for reading.

Call of Duty and Battlefield still do, however, hold unwavering support from the MLG. CoD e-sports, the MLG, and numerous outside organizations support the FPS genre. What outside support does the RPG genre have? None, the RPG genre runs independently of any real outside support. The FPS genre may not be doing better on a game-for-game basis, but the sheer number of new releases and plans to release new titles will account for this. CoD: GHOSTS may be down in sales but what about BOII, MW3, BF3, and Halo 4? All of these were huge hits within the past two years. The success of these games would present a significant obstacle for any possibility of the RPG genre overtaking FPS.

Even if this is true, it doesn't matter, as we see that the general gaming community no longer provides unwavering support to these games.

"None, the RPG genre runs independently of any real outside support."
Proof?

"CoD: GHOSTS may be down in sales but what about BOII, MW3, BF3, and Halo 4? All of these were huge hits..."
Yes those were huge hits, but those are the older games. They represent a different time in the FPS timeline. The point on the timeline called Present Day looks pretty bleak for FPS gaming, at least in regards than trying to best RPG gaming.
