Women and men have different views on cheating but men are viewed as "cheaters" whenever they engage in romantic or sexual conduct outside of their committed relationship. However, women do not see themselves as cheaters unless the male is doing everything perfectly right to please her.

I negate, that "Women are more likely to cheat in a relationship than men."

Let's get a few parameters down for this debate. The resolution only specifies those who are in a relationship and have told their significant other(s) that they will not do (certain things) with other people. It does not talk about or include that have not made this type of commitment, as people with those statuses are incapable of "cheating". With that, let's look at my opponent's case.

"Women and men have different views on cheating but men are viewed as "cheaters" whenever they engage in romantic or sexual conduct outside of their committed relationship. However, women do not see themselves as cheaters unless the male is doing everything perfectly right to please her." (PRO R1)

There's only one refutation necessary to cut the link from her case to the resolution.

1) The entire case talks about views, and not about truth.
1a >>> There's this common stereotype in my school (and presumably in most schools) that far east asians have higher grades than everyone else. Using the format provided by this resolution, such a statement would be "Asians are more likely to get higher grades than other ethnicities/cultures/races/etc." However, just because plenty of people accept such a viewpoint doesn't suddenly make it true, and even if it is true, the viewpoint can't be cited as the reason for believing it is true – this is known as the logical fallacy "ad populum". One might as well say that the earth was flat until a few hundred years ago, and then our planet turned into a sphere when the majority of people believed it was so.
1b >>> But even if we're going to buy the line of reasoning that viewpoints determine truth, we don't have any evidence how everyone thinks. Unless my opponent comes up here next round with some proof of the psychoanalyzation of every man and woman on earth, we can't give her case any weight in the debate.
1c >>> The case is internally inconsistent anyways. When talking about men and cheating, PRO says "men are viewed as", meaning that others are judging men. However when talking about women and cheating, PRO says "women do not see themselves", meaning that women are judging themselves. It is fallacious to compare the two entirely different perspectives of extrospection and introspection as a way to search for the answer the resolution requests of us.

My opponent has the burden of proof to show that his side is correct. She is the one that started this debate; therefore she is the one asserting that this statement is the truth. My job as the contender is only to prove that the resolution is false. Think of the resolution as a claim, such as "Pizza tastes good". If that person that claims that pizza tastes good and fails to show it, then you automatically vote for the other side, as the other side does not have to prove anything at all. That being said, I already default win the debate since PRO's case fails to prove the resolution as true.

But just in CASE:

Evolutionary biology dictates the opposite of this resolution; it clearly shows us why men are more likely to cheat than women. In men, sperm is created daily in the testicles – about a quadrillion are made over a lifetime . In women, ovum exist at birth and only decrease over time – about four hundred thousand , minus one every ~28 days. Women also need to put in much more time, energy, and risk investment into children than men do, and therefore are less likely to be promiscuous – "male types have an optimum strategy that tilts us a little more towards "have lots of offspring and don't nurture much", while women tilt towards "have few offspring, work hard at making sure they survive to breed"" . This is not to say that women are not promiscuous, period, just less so – and that's all I need to disprove the resolution.

Unfortunately I will most likely not be showing up as I am being forced to go on vacation from 8/6 to 8/14. Thankfully I had the foresight to say that "All points stand until refuted". Whoo.

On another note, I never read Fruits Basket. So an avatar coming from there is unlikely :o
