We all know that the Hulk could take Superman with his hands tied behind his back. We all know that the Hulk is the strongest person on Earth and beyond but he is a lot more than just strength. He has a multitude of powers and abilities.

All the incarnations of the Hulk, except for the Grey Hulk, can lift approximately 100 tons when calm. The Grey Hulk starts off at approximately 75 tons. As the familiar old addage goes, "the Madder the Hulk gets, the Stronger he gets." During times of high stress or anger, an increase in adrenaline causes the Hulk's strength to increase dramatically. There has never been a limit shown as to the highest strength the Hulk can reach thus it is assumed it is limitless. The Hulk has shown many incredible feats of the years, including holding up a 150 billion ton mountain during the Secret Wars and breaking open Onslaught's armor when the combined might of the rest of the world's heroes couldn't even make a scratch in it.
Good luck...

Thanks to Pro for presenting this topic. I look forward to a lively discussion.

Pro laid little groundwork here, so we can assume that all terms have their context-appropriate dictionary definitions, the characters in question are the commonly known comic book heroes, the fight will be 1-on-1, arguments will be based on comic book canon, and semantic trickery will not be allowed. Alright, on to the debate.

Battle Strategies

I am confident that everyone reading this is familiar with the powers of these two characters, so allow me to jump right into the battle strategies that Superman could utilize against the Hulk.

1. Calm Him

Pro may not be aware of this, but these characters have already fought. Superman won.

Hulk punches Superman into the next county before either is familiar with the other's power level. After that, even a fully enraged Hulk couldn't make Superman budge. Supes just stood there, absorbing each blow while perfectly calm. So calm, in fact, that he has time to formulate a plan, move faster than the Hulk can see, and then gain his trust with a few words, all while Hulk is attacking Superman with everything he's got. This clearly demonstrates that not only is Superman stronger, faster, and smarter than his opponent, but he also knows just what to do and say to transform Hulk back into a human. Pro loses the debate right here.

Still, to be sporting, here are a few other ways Superman could easily dispatch the Hulk.

2. Pummel Him

I've already established that the Hulk's punches mean nothing to Superman. This is a guy who took the full blast of a supernova and was "dazed for a micro-second" (http://tinyurl.com...). Now that Superman's familiar with his power level, there is nothing Hulk could do to hurt him.

Not to mention, Hulk would never lay a finger on the guy if Superman didn't want him to. Superman can think and react at faster than light speeds, meaning that he can see any punch from the Hulk coming a mile away and either catch it (http://tinyurl.com...), avoid it (http://tinyurl.com...), or vibrate his molecules so fast that it would phase right through him (http://tinyurl.com...).

Superman, though, could knock the Hulk out in less than a second. Here are a few Superman highlights that show the difference in their strength levels:

It is clear that Hulk, whose most impressive feat of strength so far is holding up a mountain, is simply outclassed.

3. Fry Him

Marvel has a character named Gladiator, who is essentially a weaker version of Superman [1]. Observe this clash between Gladiator and Hulk (http://tinyurl.com...). Gladiator’s eye beams tear away Hulk’s skin and begin burning his organs, and Hulk admits that he will die if he doesn’t stop them. Now, there are three reasons why Superman would be successful where Gladiator failed.

First, Superman’s heat vision is stronger. Gladiator’s eye beams are assumed to be hotter than a star, but Superman’s are confirmed to be so hot that science cannot measure them (http://tinyurl.com...). Note as he completely incinerates an entire army of Doomsdays in one blast (http://tinyurl.com...). Destroying Hulk with an equivalent blast would be simple.

Second, Gladiator’s powers are based on his current level of confidence; the less confidence he has in himself and his victory, the weaker he becomes. At that point in the battle, Hulk had beaten him bloody, meaning those lethal eye beams were actually much weaker than normal.

Thirdly, and most importantly, Gladiator was about 10 feet away from the Hulk when he unleashed his attack. This allowed Hulk to walk right over and stop him. Superman, who has engaged Hulk in battle before, would know to attack from a greater distance. A few hundred miles away, perhaps (http://tinyurl.com...). Maybe even a few hundred thousand (http://tinyurl.com...). Either way, Hulk would be incinerated before he knew what was happening.

4. Toss him

Speaking of space, hurling Hulk out of orbit would probably be the quickest and easiest way to dispose of the beast. Moving faster than Hulk can see, let alone react, Superman could simply grab him and throw him toward the sun. He could even freeze him first for good measure (http://tinyurl.com...). Fight over.

Summary

The Hulk doesn't stand a chance here. Not only is Superman stronger, he is faster, smarter, more durable, can fly, can shoot fire from his eyes and ice from his mouth, can phase through punches, etc. etc. Hulk brings nothing to the table in this fight. He's simply out of his league.

A very clever move by my opponent there. Very clever indeed. His staunch refusal to even acknowledge my arguments forces me to rethink my entire stance on this issue.

What if he's right? What if the Hulk really would beat Superman? Is it even possible? Well, let me think about it a bit...

From what I've heard, Hulk is the strongest there is. Could Superman even hurt him? I'm not sure anymore. I mean, it's almost impossible to even make Hulk flinch...

...let alone hurt him!

And what was that craziness I said about calming Hulk down? So Superman managed it once. So what? How often does Hulk actually stop in his tracks?

Probably never.

Well, my argument about Superman throwing Hulk might still stand. God, what am I thinking? Hulk's too heavy to lift...

...let alone throw.

Also, speaking of Superman...okay, he beat Hulk once.

Big whoop! That was one time! What are the odds he'd win again?

Unlikely. Not even worth mentioning.

The point is, I may have been all wrong here. The Hulk just doesn't lose. He cant. Nobody can beat the Hulk! Nobody...

Beats...

HULK!

Thank you, Pro, for showing me the light.

lol ain't it grand? Everyone wants their favorite hero to be the strongest, so they keep churning out these match-ups until every hero has beaten every other hero. There's an argument for every occasion!

Ahh comics. So inconsistent. In one debate you cite how Spiderman can make the Hulk stagger and in another you cite how Hulk defeated the combined might of Marvel's Earth during World War Hulk.

Hey this is User's friend. He is having issues with his internet and is not able to reply.
He would like to close/forget about this debate and start a new one with the same first round posts.
If possible, thank you.

I also lean towards Thor, simply due to one power, he can take your soul.

But if Superman can avoid that, then that would be an interesting fight.

Oooh I shall go check out that debate. Superman vs. Goku depends on which Superman we're talking about.

Reasons for voting decision: Where most would simply extend all arguments for Round 2, Maikuru went above and beyond in giving perfect comic strip evidence, all the while hilariously pretending to doubt himself. Good show!
