Firstly, I would like to say I believe there are many good human beings in the world, who do possess the emotion of empathy and try to help those who face oppression (animals and humans), but I would say that the bad sadly outweighs the good. By this I mean the influence of selfish, power addicted people.

1.We are destroying the planet. Despite the multiple campaigns that take place, deforestation still happens at a massive rate, with millions of trees being killed each year. Despite the worldwide conferences, we are still pumping out millions of tonnes of deadly gases into the atmosphere each year. How can this possibly be justified? Greed, apparently a part of human nature. Not only are we ruthlessly destroying these precious forests, we are wiping out the incredible diversity that lives there. Put yourself in their situation; how would you feel if huge machines started tearing apart your home, without any regard for you or your family? And yet, when this topic is brought up, people tend to switch off. My question is, can we really afford to do so for much longer?

You see the results not the beginning. How do they become like this? Far back in time we were merely an existence like any other just born into life and within that we had to find our way from the unknown. With nothing but the earth to guide us. We humans did not choose to be this nor did we choose the form we take psychically and mentally. Our entire make up was the input in an environment that was beyond our control. Through that the things you call greed and they other emotions were created. With no proper guidance we will fall victim to our surrounding. So as you might see it is not our fault, but yes still our problem. Would you blame a child for doing something that was not within his control. He simply didn't know better. We look upon age and think to ourselves well he should have known. He doesn't. We cannot be what we are not because it's just how we are at this stage in time. Yes we cause damage, but not because we choose to do so. It is the responsibility of does that do understand to make the others understand that what they are doing is wrong. Most important thing you most understand is that emotions is fiction. You might see them (the result) as normal like breathing air, but that also is the result of the psychological development throughout the ages. I like to see everybody as one entity. Within the individual we have negative and positive and together we become the person we are. If you divide the entire population into these units of negative and positive just like within the individual you might understand now that it is the responsibility for the positive to restrain the negative, and if the negative outweigh the positive it is because the environment has forced us to be that from birth. It is our human nature at this point as I said earlier to fall victim to our surrounding.

Would the world be a better place it wasn't for us humans? Definitely not! We are simply in a phase of adolescence and once we grow out of it you will see that only beauty exists. Just like how the individual that reached their true potential form overcoming their weaknesses.

Nearly every one of has free will. You make the decision, not anyone else. You know what is right, and what is wrong. If every human, and anything that came as a result of humans- factories etc.- was removed, the world WOULD be a better place. The amount of suffering in the world would decrease rapidly and the amount of mass deaths and extinctions would decrease significantly. The world would not be polluted with waste that can take MILLIONS of years to decompose.
If you say that we are a result of our surroundings, then do you mean we have no freedom of choice? If one person murders/ tortures/ rapes another, is this not their fault? Did they not make the choice to carry out this action?
My ultimate question is, as I have stated, if you removed every human, and anything that came as a result of humans, would the would be a better place?

It would be a better place at first. However, in the end the world would be a far better place with humans on it. Basically in the long run humans will have a positive effect. For example, an asteroid where to hit planet earth and the earth itself can't stop it. As you see now humans can prevent it perhaps not efficiently now, but certainly in the future.

Like I said before in the phase of adolescence. We will grow out of it. Choice exist not freedom of choice. I could go further within this topic, but that is irrelevant to this debate now.

I think your entire argument is irrelevant. We are not at an 'adolescent' stage. We are destroying the world. If another world war happens, earth could have every one of its populations wiped out, especially with new space weapons being developed, and of course the nuclear weapons present.

If we continue the way we are now, the earth won't survive to see its 'adult' stage.

The example of the meteor is irrelevant also; the earth isn't going to last forever, with or without humans.
My argument is that which I stated previously; re-read this please and then try to offer a rational, relevant argument, which relates to the present day, or to history.

You say we are destroying it. We are not destroying it some people are destroying it. You see the stage we are in right now. I pointed out that it isn't our fault for being like this. Good people exist and are taking actions to save the planet. Besides the earth does not define itself with being a good place. It is a human way of thinking. The earth really couldn't care. Only because we exist do we give meanings like this. Without us there would be no one to appreciate it thus not of importance. We exist because we were created and by it having purpose. Now from the standpoint well we do exist so are capable of thinking the way you are in a what if scenario. What if we didn't exist is hard to imagine since we do exist. For I believe that we are at the top of evolution. Did we not exist, sooner or later the same kind of species capable of reasoning like us will eventually be created, then what? This story all over again. There is no running away from who we are, this is how we are created. Capable of good and bad.
Just like the other species exist for a reason, so do we. Currently, we are acting upon the result of everything before us, but we will come out of it. Do we not then eventually the same type of beings will come to be and start over. This is a process that will continue. Why is that? It comes all back to why do we exist? For reasons unknown for now, but we do know that we are being pushed in this phase by something. May it be us in the end or another species eventually they will get it right.

In closing of this debate the world wouldn't be a better place without us humans. We exist by that have meaning and are in a process of constancy. Learning from these mistakes we will come out of this phase and define the world as a better place for it can't be done without us.

wow man.
what a argument.
indeed there is one power. who neutralize every thing. make every thing balanced.
don't worry there is always a predator for every predator.
mosquito are the deadliest animal in the world.
if we (human) are making trouble in natural system. he will get rid of those who make trouble.
there were many nations who was so strong and advance but we only see them in history books.
the best example is Egypt. their pyramids. so soon ALLAH will balance again. dont worry. it would be bad but the world is at stake. it must be done. just like always who will initiate it. you can guess.

How exactly do you define a "better place" if there are no humans there to create that? I completely agree with you're point. That's why it's up to us(the humans) to create the kind of world we want to live in. If you see something happening that you don't agree with then say something about it. (I don't mean YOU just people in general) If every person in the world worked together to get rid of all the bad things in the world then yes, this could be a better place. But, honestly I don't see that happening. People get to caught up in themselves to really care about what's happening outside of their own little fantasy.

This debate reminds me of a scene in Lord of the Rings when Strider (Aragorn is known as Strider at this point in the story) is leading the Hobbits to Rivendell. He leads them through a swamp where the Hobbits are eaten alive by mosquitos. One of them says, "What do they eat when they can't get Hobbit?"

Humans are different than most mammals. Whereas most mammals are covered in a thick layer of hair, or at least a thick layer of skin, humans are virtually hairless with thin skin. This makes humans the ideal diet for mosquitos. If humans did not exist mosquitos would be missing a delicacy. So I think the world is better off WITH humans than without.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro ignores the naturalistic fallacy, fact-value dichotomy, and is-ought problem. There's also a strange assertion of claiming people are responsible for their actions due to having free will. Free will doesn't matter if nature reigns supreme.

Reasons for voting decision: Con was just making lame excuses for why humans destroy their environment by not having free will or not knowing better. That doesn't prove the Earth would be better with us. Con makes a claim that we will change to a new stage, without evidence for such a claim. Con contradicts himself by saying we were created, yet evolved. Grammar to pro since con wrote "emotions is fiction" instead of "emotions are fiction". Nobody used sources, but pro used an accurate description of what is currently happening to Earth by humans.
