Divergent would be a better America because although the country is divided into factions and you do have the factionless no one must be sacrificed in games. Also, divergent's system allows for equality, whereas the Hunger Games system has the elite and the poor. Divergent allows for people to have a choice and because the system of factions is somewhat close to human nature it allows for people to go where they belong. The Hunger Games forces the citizens to stay in a region and work for the betterment of the elite.
My opponent argues that Hunger Games would be beneficial if the U.S was overpopulated, and I argue that the Hunger Games had nothing to do with overpopulation. If you reflect on the books/movies it is evident that most of the country has been destroyed, therefore the population is very much controlled and sustainable, or at least smaller than the original U.S.
My opponent says that no one must be sacrificed, but, sometimes, that's a bad idea. There would be riots all throughout the land, to keep riots at bay, they have the Hunger Games every year, and it's certainly doing a good job at that (until the Mockingbird movie comes out :P)
Plus, when someone wins the Games, they are awarded with fame and fortune, and they can spend their fortune as they please, so they can distribute between everyone in their district if they wanted. So, it keeps the riots at bay, and sometimes the people get helped too. vote con!
Any system that is based on the idea that people must be sacrificed to maintain peace and order is NOT the system needed in America. The idea that the Hunger Games are fought solely in the fear of riots is ludicrous, and if the government in place cannot control the country without the fear factor of the Games then they must be replaced. Also, as my opponent points out this system fails to contain the residents even with the Hunger Games are in place, and therefore we can conclude they are not successful even in my opponents standards.
The idea that winning the Games is appealing is a hoax, and the winners often despise the entire system and the fame and fortune. Also, it was established in the trilogy that usually District 1 won the Games, and therefore the idea that the winnings would help the people in other districts is incorrect.
Because of these reasons and previously stated arguments I state that Divergent would be a better America.
There is no need for riot control in the Divergent America, because the faction system does not play on fear, but instead acts with human nature to assign people to factions. The class division present in Hunger Games is not present in Divergent.
well, obviously, the ideas of better life in Divergent aren't as great either, i mean, people are split into groups based on their PERSONALITY! The most charming part of a person is their personality, but what's the point if everybody with you has the same personality!? Two of the groups are fighting each other already, so who knows what chaos will emerge from this in the near future!? At least their are uniqueness in the districts.
