Con

Innomen predicted, when I returned to DDO, that "It's just a matter of time until the next melt down."

Such open-ended predictions are win-win for those who make them; if not proven, they are forgotten, and if proven, the predictor is hailed as a prophet. So this is a way of holding Innomen accountable for his prediction in a manner consistent with the primary dispute mechanism on this website -- as well as holding me accountable for my behavior.

Full Resolution: WriterDave will melt down before there are less than 3 days left in the voting period of this debate.

"Melt down," in this context, means to explicitly convey the immanent presence of a life-threatening psychological distress on my part.

If before the time when this debate has 3 days left in the voting period I have melted down, by the definition above, all 7 points should go to Pro. If not, all 7 points should go to Con. There should be no voting prior to the last 3 days of the voting period.

To protect Dave, I will be taking this debate and forfeiting. Dave, I care a lot about my record, so I just did you a huge favor . . .

Dave, please stop this. I have sent you private messages that you do not respond to, as has TUF. There are people who support you and want to comfort you, but you are not accepting our aid. There is only so much we can do.

"I would love to do as you say, and improve this site in a good fashion rather in a way that I evidently have been, but I can't do that by staying silent, can I?"

I disagree, you'd improve the site by great measure by staying silent.

In fact, I have a dual motivation. I want innomen to eat his words, but I also want to put myself into the habit of simply avoiding certain subjects around here -- or channeling my need to talk about them somewhere where they're welcome. It's quite clear that that's not welcome around here. That's why I sent the proof of my mental illness to innomen via pm rather than make them public, which would have been attention whoring. (And by the way, are you sure they already knew about the vids? I haven't found one place where they've been posted or mentioned.)

Maybe I should have called the debate "WriterDave Will NOT Melt Down" and taken Pro . . . or simply framed it around Innomen's predicition. But too late now.

Dave, you can do that without telling everyone that you are going to melt down.

Your motivations are off. The reason that you are committed to not melting down is that innomen predicted that you would melt down. You should stop yourself from melting down because you respect yourself, not because innomen issued a challenge to you.

RP, what better way can I take responsibility and show that I am changing and will change than by committing to not "melt down" for at least three months? That's (part of) what I was trying to accomplish with this debate. And how can I argue unpopular positions around here by staying silent?

I won't discuss my medical condition in public here any further; you can PM me or email me if you want to talk about it.

Dave, this is not even about special consideration at this point. It is about you taking responsibility for yourself and changing your personality for the better. I am undergoing a similar process, although it will be slightly easier for me since I do not have a medical condition :/ Just make a conscious effort to think positively about yourself and ignore people who insult you.

I will keep protecting you because I try to be a nice person, but most people on DDO are getting impatient; you are already losing supporters. You are wearing people out, Dave. This is not even about you being attack mentally; it is about you seeking attention . . .

I made arguments. I defended them in the best way I knew how. In retrospect I would not have done so if I'd known they were going to blow up so much, but I honestly think I addressed every objection to my argument -- including your bit about banning people, which I don't advocate; I advocate a tiered system of enforcement. If I had PMed innomen explaining the situation, he may (or may not) have worked something out with me, but then that would imply that I deserve special treatment around here, which I don't. So again, I don't know what I could have done differently without staying silent.

As for the worth of this debate, I'll grant it's far from the most substantive debate DDO's ever had, but have you seen some of the other stuff recently?

It's not a possibility I'd throw away from the table.

You don't have to be silent, but you don't have to be loudmouthed either. If you engaged with innomen in a PM, perhaps he'd be far more motivated to help you out in the best way possible. But nope, you decide to create numerous threads and rant endlessly. Then you create worthless debate about a vague prediction innomen made. Not worth it. If I were a moderator, I'd have banned you by now. You ask to ban people who break the rules. Well, so did you sir.

Again, I can't address the attention thing without responding to it, which necessarily draws SOME attention to myself, so that's just a lose-lose for me. As for whether I'm a troll, I'll let my debating record speak for that -- would a troll have spent so much time and effort on the crafted statements of my own debates?

I would love to do as you say, and improve this site in a good fashion rather in a way that I evidently have been, but I can't do that by staying silent, can I?
