MOM I M ON A LATE NIGHT OUT SO DONT WAIT FOR ME ON THE DINNER AND PLEASE NO PHONE CALLS.IT DISTURBS A LOT...
YES my dear friends this is the scenario of todays India.. India is a contry of ethics and is very famous for its culture.but as the westernisation is spreading its arms the youngsters are getting deep into it and turning out into a non indian form..
girls move out in bikinis, youngsters smoke in front of their parents, girls have nothing to do with kitchen, boys have nothing to do with studies, disco at night, getting up late n the morning not sleeping whole night...this is where india is moving into..and this is surely not supporting the indian culture..
i dont support the parda system and sati system of the indian society but atleast the basic culture of the country shud move on..

What makes India so special?

Countries all over the world, including The United States of America, are constantly evolving and changing. Many times this includes becoming more Westernized. Consider the city of Rome, Italy. This city once defined culture world-wide, and with its Colosseum, Pantheon and Vatican still standing, it continues to draw in tourists from all over the world to come see how well this ancient culture has been preserved... however that doesn't mean that a Starbucks doesn't exist somewhere amongst the piazza's.

Arguably Indian culture or other Eastern cultures have also influenced the West. We have Hookah bars now, and sari's have become sort of fashionable. Technology from Asia is among the most popular, and Indian style music has even infiltrated hip-hop (think: Beware of the Boys by Jay Z as just one of many examples). Does that mean that Westernized culture is becoming ruined? I don't think so. I think the blending of cultures is interesting, exciting and even beneficial in a multitude of ways.

Pro is suggesting that India's culture remain a constant -- that things never change in terms of social roles -- which is honestly unfathomable to a Westerner like me. Personally the concept of a woman's role to be in the kitchen is a bit out-dated to say the least, but I digress, as I am from the West. My point is simply that change is iminent in so many ways, including culturally. I would also like to remind Pro that you can't pick and choose what aspects of culture come and go. Although some of the 'negatives' of Western culture may have spread to India, consider all of the positives as well.

I would also like to point out that if this culture is spreading in terms of, say, a girl wearing a bikini, then perhaps it is the desire of young Indians to expand and experience a different lifestyle from the ones their parents had -- who is Pro to deny them this opportunity, or assume that it is a bad thing? Also, I've got news for you: it's not an East/West thing but a generational thing. In the United States, many parents in the 1960s and 70s weren't happy that their male children started growing long hair, or that their young female daughters stopped wearing bras in light of feminism. While it may have been a cultural change and a little scary (somtimes drastic), those movements have led us to where we are today, and many people are grateful for that...

Anyway I digress for now. I have pink eye.

I disagree.

I believe that I have a very good idea on the topic that you wanted to debate on. I do not believe that an Indian opponent is necessary to debate it, and to think so is incredibly ignorant on your part... no offense.

As Pro, please respond to my rebuttal, and make your case on how/why westernization is exploting India in particular. Why is India above westernization or cultural change in general? Pretend I'm Indian (Uh, how do you know I'm not Indian, by the way?) and give it your best shot.

In conclusion, youngsters moving towards Westernization are not exploiting Indian culture... especially since exploiting something means using something selfishly for one's advantage (in this case culture), which really makes no sense, since westernizing would be abandoning one's culture - not unethically promoting it as the definition suggests. Oh well.

For better or worse, anything that is seen as no longer relevant gets replaced.
