My opponent has forfieted, not giving any arguments of his own. Because of this, I shall just make my own:

1. Emergency Use
What if a youngster is home alone and a burglar breaks in, so they hide in their room? They don't have a house phone, so what should they do? That's right, they pull out their cell phone and dial 9-1-1. Without their cell phone, they could have important items stolen, their house ravaged, and possibly themselves hurt or even killed.

2. Connection with friends and parents
Many children have parents that aren't home all too often because of jobs or some other reason. It is good for a youngster to be able to contact their away-from-home parents so that their bond still remains, and so that they can just talk.
Over summer, friends don't see each other (as often), that's why phones are good. They can text and/or call their friends.

So far, the debate is pushing the boundaries of logic.

What is your opinion of "too young?" I agree that you should not give a third or fourth grader a phone just for the fun of it, and certainly not a smart phone. However, many parents are away on business or kids who go over to the neighbors all the time. What else is the child supposed to do with it if his or her friends don't have one? Also, many people are getting rid of house phones.
