First of all, I think age does not matter, if you feel ready and you do it with the right person.
I think you should still wait at least till the age of 16, BUT.

1. Some people will be ready earlier than others.
Some people are just more mature than others, and that is a fact.

2. I lost my virginity when I was 16, and I knew I was ready and I am not sorry, because I did it with a guy, who I am still dating for almost 3 years now and you just know you did the right thing, and you did it in the name of love.

3. Some people are emotionaly ready even before the age of 17.
Some, are not even at the age of 30.
Fayzov

Con

Yes, maybe they are emotionally ready, but they are still not old enough to feel the whole responsibility. Many teenagers do it for the first time in order to satisfy their sexual needs, but not in the name of love. In many cases it ends with unwanted pregnancy and broken lives. In case if a 15-16 year girl gets pregnant she can get serious problems with health during the pregnancy period and during the birth-giving.

I said 17 year old is old enough to have sex, not a baby!
And, even if teenagers do it in order to satisfy our sexual needs, is there something bad with that?
And nowadays kids use contraception, you know. There are a lot lectures about sex even in schools now, so kids now are more familiar with sex as they were in the 'old days'.

Only an old virgin will vote this debate negatively. And y'all know it.
Fayzov

Con

Well... now you know that not only an old virgin will vote it nagatively.
What I am saying is that every action has a result, so does sex. We also had lectures about sex in school, but there still was a case when a couple ( the guy is my friend) for some reason didnt use contraception and it ended with abortion. That story convinced me that most of the school-age kids are not responsible enough to have sex.

And please read legislation regarding legal sex age in different nations. Many have it identified as 18. Consider USA age of consent 18 (11): Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin. Some states in USA have the age of consent stated as 16 and 17 aswell but the federal law states it as 18. http://simple.wikipedia.org... ( just to help you out)
Specially when you are talking about the legal age, do not only consider European or American nations, also take into account the eastern side with over 57 countries following certain religions that do not allow sex before 18 and even 21 in some cases or before marriage. Along with that the countries are switiching to the legal sex age of 18 as well. Consider Vatican for example http://www.gaystarnews.com...

Honestly thats what not the topic says. It just generalizes seventeen year old beings and sex. If maturity is the case the parameters must have been established in your very first argument. Even when you are talking about maturity, that would also have its implications. As you stated in your argument "SOME PEOPLE WILL BE READY BEFORE OTHERS". Well "MANY/SOME WILL NOT BE READY AS WELL" .

Wait, sex is not LEGAL when you are 17? Is this a joke or something? And stop using ABORTION and HAVING A BABY as an argument, because we were talking of MATURITY TO HAVE SEX, not to have a baby, once again. You're all to smart for your own good. That was, of course, sarcasm.

3. Lastly why is it that most countries legal age for sex is 18 and not 17. Certain thinking has been put into determining the legal sex age by experts and that should be respected as they have kept in mind the constraints and implications while doing so.

2. It also has to be understood that many 17 year olds wont have serious considerations regarding using protection and safe sex which can result in sexually transmitted diseases(Even mature people fail at it at times) . Now we dont want our young generation to be masses of stds? do we? Already a lot of teenagers experience these problems in many nations therefore proper measures should be taken to prevent it.

The propositions arguments seem to be more leaned towards the emotions rather than logic. Taking into account both it is strongly advisable that sex better be practised at a more mature age than 17 and rather after marriage.
1. The first, second and third argument provided can be correlated. Recognizing that apart from social aspect of pleasure and free will some logical economic and health questions arise. What you fail to understand is that majority of the population aged 17 would not be ready for it as it does bear some after effects which is apparently child birth and a 17 year old is not well equipped with the mental and financial capability of dealing with such a situation. As far as emotional capability is concerned, scientific research proves that the age bracket you mention goes through certain hormonal changes which might lead to stress and break ups. A lot of sex at this age might just be under the blanket of fake love.

Reasons for voting decision: This was a pretty terrible debate all around, with virtually no logical arguments on either side. Personal emotions do not count as evidence in any debating forum. At least Con made an effort to put forward SOME kind of argument inside the realm of tangible evidence, so I will give the debate to him on this one. Also, word to PRO. I gave the conduct points to CON because you would be well advised to stay away from ad hominem attacks on both your opponent and voters.
