Now that I have more free time to debate, I decided to make this debate.

Zimbabwe should return to Rhodesia's form of government again, but without the oppression of african people.

Why?

When it was Rhodesia, it used to be one of the most (if not the most) prosperous country in Africa and a democratic nation, it used to have one of the largest life expectancies in Africa and a fast growing economy[1]

After Mugabe came to power, Zimbabwe GDP per capita started to fall like a heavy rock, and the Life expectancy went from 61 to 43[2]

In conclusion: Zimbabwe should bring back Rhodesia's form of government, but without the oppression of Black people.

I will let Con state his case in Round 1.

May the Debate, begin.

Rhodesia was an unrecognized state that existed in Southern Africa from 1965 to 1979. The Rhodesian interim Constitution reserved power the the White Minority of the country. Therefore if the Rhodesian system was to be established, there would be no way to do so without oppressing black Africans.

In addition Rhodesia had no fully established government, and was not recognized by any state or international organization.

As Zimbabwe has an established system of government it would be a step backwards if Zimbabwe was to become Rhodesia again. A Cambridge university stated that Rhodesia actually has great Democratic potential. The only thing in the way is Mugabe. If Mugabe were to resign, be ousted or even die, Zimbabwe would have a political system in place that could become a fully functioning democracy easily. Therefore the solution fro Zimbabwe is not to return to the old Rhodesian system, but to remove Robert Mugabe from the presidency.

By failing to respond, my opponent has proven that while Rhodesia had a greater life expectancy, Zimbabwe's democratic potential and ethnic rights outweigh this. Therefore he has demonstrated that Zimbabwe should not return to Rhodesia's form of government, and you should vote in the Negation

Given that my opponent has failed to respond to any of my arguments, you should vote for the con.

All i can say is that given, the current situations that Zimbabwe has put itself into ever since Mugabe came into power, yeah it would better if there was a historical alternative that would be more beneficial for the state.

Think about it, Rhodesia, when it was a state, it was the envy of the African continent. It's economy rivaled that of South Africa. Now, thinking more contemporary, we see that it is now a failed state. The reasons for it being a failed state today can clearly be seen and it's very noticeable.

Yeah, the name doesn't matter, what it matters is the form of government.

It would've been Portuguese if it wasn't for the British ultimatum.

I could of sworn they were German at one point. World affairs and governments are my favorite subgect, but I don't know enough to accept.

They were a british colony. Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) was a white ruled country, not so different from old South Africa, except Rhodesia used to be richer, it also used to be a democratic nation, until Mugabe came to power and turned into a dictatorship.

Would you mind linking me Rhodesia's government. Don't know much about colonial Africa, but taking a wild guess and assuming they were German?

Yeah you're right, Zimbabwe should keep the name but should go back to Rhodesia's form of government. (But without the oppression of Zimbabweans and Rhodesians of course)
