here we think that alchol has no effect on our current society, and that it indeed benefits us

This is my first debate so here we go. According to my opponent, he purports that alcohol has no effect on our current society and that indeed benefits us. Throughout the history of the UK, it is a well known fact that the lewd and very often disgusted behaviour exhibited by Brits (particularly on weekends) can be trace to the use of alcohol. In schools alcohol consumption by minors is on the increase. Amongst adults the consumption of alcohol constitutes a staggering 84% of population with some 60% of Brits being intoxicated at one time or another. Night club brawls and lawless behaviour is said to increase with the consumption of alcohol. What we have is a definite link between the consumption of alcohol and a change of behaviour that tends towards aggression or the breaking of the law. To say that alcohol benefits us, as my opponent purports, is to say that there is nothing wrong with the use of alcohol and so everyone should partake. However I would say that given the context in which alcohol is used there are definite benefits that can be derived but its use carries a certain negative stigma, since it more used in a social setting and in these settings the likelihood of abuse is always great.

Reasons for voting decision: Only Pro offered actual arguments; Con seemed to be committing major fallacies...He notes that "here we think alcohol has no effect on our current society, and that it indeed benefits us" (ummm....who's we? Isn't Pro supposed to oppose the resolution and argue that alcohol DOES cause of most of UK's society problems???) Con's very first sentence was replete with S&G errors...
