Atheism is again a belief system, that believes there is no God. They explicitly don't believe in Divinity.
I am calling it a "Belief system" because atheist don't have a rational reason on why God doesnt exist. Atheism generally defines "God" in accordance with Abrahamic view of GOD, which is an organized institute of thought.
By this definition Buddhists are Atheists. They don't believe in the existence of a GOD, Although they believe in divinity.
Athiests actually only debate specific divine phenomena or events to refute existence of god. They consider holy books, and religious scriptures as authoritative information on GOD. But doesn't consider god as a phenomenon that exist outside the categorical statements in holy books.
Atheist believe in the infallible proofs provided by science, and even if inexperienced in the scientific method they claim science as the definitive authority on the truth of all phenomena. As with theists, atheists believe the words of a more authorized individual or institute with no actual personal exploration of science. An atheist might state the big bang theory or the speed of light. But this wisdom or information is only gained through others individuals and related streams of thought, not any personal investigation. While the subject is different, this is exactly what a theist does. Just the information both these sects call out is different.
So any belief in "the non existence of God", along with the lack of any proof to actually refute the existence of an entity based on the views of institutions, other individuals, and definitions of GOD makes them as much as a believer as any other religious devotee.

"Are you a Christian?"
"No, I am an Atheist."

Atheism is just another belief system, that claims there is no GOD, or divinity. It opposes theist views. There are sects of Hinduism and Buddhism that has this same philosophy, but yet they fall under religion.
A religion does not need to have "GOD". A person can deny the existence of God and still be religious.
It can be argued that Atheists "lack belief" in God , hence it is not a belief system. It is as good as saying " I don't believe in human society and rules" Makes you not human.
Most religions disbelief other religions, Atheism disbelief other religions.

The lack of belief in god, doesn't automatically release you from a system of thoughts, beliefs, philosophy and lifestyle. Religion is a system of thoughts, beliefs, philosophy and lifestyle. The very purpose of having a lack of a belief itself a philosophical lifestyle.
Any atheist who refute religious texts, make judgements about religious views, have actually made a religious statements that coincide with their views of the world and reality. If Atheism isn't a religion, why do atheists refute religious claims.
Contemporary atheism has its leadership, books and organizations.
The most fundamental fact is that the existence of god can neither be proven or dis-proven. Accepting the Idea of God or rejecting it takes faith. Faith is the cornerstone of religion.

This debate is not about whether which one is right. This is about whether atheism is an opposing religion to theism.
The modern understanding of Athiesm is just a ideological opposite of the Abrahamic view of religion, Monohiesm, standard belief system. Hence the arguments about a founder, prophet and holy books. This is the promary misunderstanding ansd obstacle debate.
But most of the other word religions don't follow this religious construct. For example Hinduism doesn't have a founder or any strict set of codes to follow. Hindus can be atheists. Buddhism denies the existence of god. They are atheists.
Here I have two examples of Atheism, which is called a religion.
An individual or group of people denying the existence of an entity, without providing any proof of the so called non existence is still a belief system. Disproving specific constructs of a specific single religion, to claim GOD doesn't exist is not rational. Disproving GOD by claiming that bible says god created world in 7 days, is just disproving a old book , or its authors. IT doesn't disprove the existence of GOD. This is what atheists do and they end up "BELIEVING" an entity doesn't exist. A lack of evidence doesn't mean it does not exist. Claiming something because of the lack of evidence is a belief.
Einstein disproved Newton's idea of time and space. HE did not disprove time and space.
A disbelief in something is still belief.
Atheism is the opposing religion, there are figure heads, leaders, members evangelize and convert. They have groups with ethical and moral code. They are a religion.

belief=theism
disbelief=atheism

you are just avoiding everything im saying.. and for good reason, the default position is there is no god, thats why faith or belief is required, and then there are more people having faith in other things, thats all, theism and atheism..

there is no god.. is true

this is not a debate about which is true? or whether atheists or theists are wrong. Or which is the default stance . This is about whether Atheism is a religion.
By repeating the same moot point over and again shows a religious attitude towards atheism. By ignoring the actual debate and forcing a singular point of view, the similarity of the religiously faithful and the atheist has been demonstrated here.
Hence proved Atheism is a religion, which preaches there is no god.

if a god was true there would be no belief involved.. like if a god was walking around mountain high and giving commands in a roaring voice

there is no god is true

Again this is not an debate whether god is true or not.
Like religious arguments, Atheists define god to whatever they want, and except to observe a physical phenomenon of god, whereas in most religions apart from the Abrahamic ones, God is un-observable by humans.
Atheists showcase all the basic qualities of a religious evangelists. They attach god to religion, whereas the concept of a GOD is beyond religion. Gravity waves exist whether we found them or not, it exists whether there is a science or not.
There is no doubt atheism is a an opposing religion.
