I think one is better than two because
1. Being single is more freedom than in a relationship. You are free to date whomever you want. You do not need to be hesitate to go out with anyone or do not worry that you will make your partner angry or jealous if you are in a relationship. You also do not need to accommodate with your partner too.
2. Having more time for yourself. You do not need to spend more time on phone calling but spend more time to start a new hobby or learn something new. Instead of always being a companion accompanying your partner to go for shopping, you can hang out with your friends or family. you can just stay at home if you like and doing your own business.
3. Having more money in pocket. You do not need to spend extra money for your partner but spend money for your own. You also can save money as you do not need to buy presents on special days such as Valentine's day, Anniversary day and also anniversary months for some couple.

1 is not necessarily better then 2. Many situations and scenarios may be attributed to this ideology. Such as a relationship, family, your place in life, and how you move about in the world.

1. In a relationship you have someone who cares for you. Who, when you get home, loves you no matter what anyone else thinks, and wants to know how your day went, what happened, did anything happen of which had an influence on you and you may need someone to help you. When the world is against you, this person is willing to stand with you, to keep you company at night so you're not alone while you sleep. Plus it doesn't hurt to know that there's someone who helping to support you financially, and emotionally.

2. In a political scenario, it's best when two nationalities work together in a cooperative agreement, both in times of conflict and of peace. At peace the two share resources, finding ways to help each other with the other's infrastructure, economy, military, and other departments of government which benefit from an alliance. Additionally, when one country is at war with another, wouldn't it be best if one had an ally who assisted with extra, well-appreciated resources, military forces, and intelligence which may or may not have an influence on how the scales tip in balance of one side or the other?

There's more relationships to be in than a romantic one. If you're wanting to get out of your parent's house, then you could find a roommate who'd be willing to help pay half the bills while you pay the other half. And personally, I'd prefer to living with a roommate than to live by myself.

well, best friends are also can be your good listener when you want to talk to or your siblings or even other family members. you can share everything happened today and listen some feedback from them. family is always there for us even if you get betrayed or hurt by your boyfriend or girlfriend.
addition, best friend or so called your sisters can be a good roommate too. It is still an awkward if your roommate is opposite sex.
