Cats are wretched beasts with enourmous salty genitals

I can only assume that my opponent's position is that cats should be forced to wear shoes because they have enormous and salty genitals. I will then contend that having large genitals in no way means that cats should have wear shoes.
Shoes are defined as an outer covering for the human foot [1]. Even if we were to broaden the definition to include all animals then unless cats have their genitals on their feet, which they do not, I have successfully refuted my opponent's claim.

Here are some other reasons as to why cats should not have to wear shoes:

*Cats typically live inside of their owner's homes, therefore whether or not a cat should wear shoes falls under the jurisdiction of their respective owner.
*Forcing cat owners to purchase special shoes that their cats should wear does not make sense as a cat not wearing shoes hardly infringes upon the rights of other individuals.
*It would be an unnecessary expenditure and unethical for the government to round up all stray cats and put un-removable shoes on them because typically cats that live outdoors require their claws for survival.

Ah, but as you may know some cats love to scratch and tear on things... Them wearing shoes would prevent this.

Also "as to what you had said about outdoor cats needing claws to survive" if we put shoes on every single one of them then they would not need them... if they came in contact with another cat they would both have shoes. Therefore no problem.

So this would save furniture and it would save some stray cats that would other wise be deathly harmed in mortal combat with their foes.

"Ah, but as you may know some cats love to scratch and tear on things... Them wearing shoes would prevent this."

[Yes it would, so if you don't want your cat to scratch up the furniture then put shoes on it. There's not reason for any governing entity to require you to do this. It is a matter of whether or not you care if your cat ruins your stuff.]

"Also "as to what you had said about outdoor cats needing claws to survive" if we put shoes on every single one of them then they would not need them... if they came in contact with another cat they would both have shoes. Therefore no problem."

[Survival is more than just surviving fights, there are predators to consider. A cat would be defenseless against any type of hostile animal larger than itself. Cats also use their claws to hunt. These are 2 more arguments against cat shoes.]

I look forward to my opponent's next response.
