kids are not animals and ahould not be treated as one!!! if you can not handle your children then you should of never had sexual intercourse and make one
if you do not know how to disipline your children then i sugest you should of thought about it before having kids

Pro

Wow. I only have 5 minutes.

Children are property until cognition and should therefore be treated according to the whims of their parents or guardians as long as they are not beaten or killed.

The argument that children should not be put on leashes because children are not animals is moot because humans are animals themselves. the only distinction between humans and other animals is that animals never gain cognition.

Unfortunately, my opponent has forfeited round 2.

In addition to the ethics mentioned before (here's the link to the book; I was referencing the beginning of chapter one http://books.google.com...), there is also a practical argument. With increasing child abductions and numbers of sexual predators, child leashes for younger children just learning to walk increase their safety(http://www.essortment.com...).

Responsible parents would put their younger children on leashes. There is practical benefit and ethical justification.

first off a leash? lets be honest for a minute
what ever happen to the old years of punishing your kids the right way like spankings for touching things in the store not putting them on leashes like they are an animal that you can not handle

I would like to thank my opponent for this debate.

Leashes are not punishment. They are a way to keep children safe in large crowds and public areas. They keep children from getting lost, abducted, and sexually abused.

My opponent's argument that it isn't right to treat children like animals is still moot. Children, and all humans, are animals. This fact has been conceded.

Leashes not only keep children safe, but also serve as a convenience to parents.

In conclusion, the child is safer with a leash. My opponent has not addressed this point and has conceded it.
Thank you.

I never put my daughter on a leash; her hair was plenty long enough. :-)

I personally don't like the idea of putting children on leashes, but it is sometimes necessary. The people that aren't as effective at controlling their children have a way to keep them protected.

Why do n00bs always give themselves seven points? (That's a rhetorical question, I obviously know why.)

How, in bloody hell, do you not realize that humans are part of Kingdom Animalia? So what if kids are put on leashes? Does it really matter? Leashes are used for discipline and understanding of authority. It is essential that a child learns how to accept the power of the establishment and learn to deal with it. The day the child realizes how stupid the establishment is represents that child's concept of politics and progress in life.
