two wrongs don't make a right. killing people who kill people isn't teaching anyone anything except to reciprocate with something more dramatic and unnecessary.
Okay good point, but putting a mass murder in jail and having tax payers pay for 3 square meals and a pretty decent life isn't teaching anyone especially them any lesions. |

everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. but everyone deserves a second chance. if someone would go as far to intentionally kill someone, then something must be clinically wrong with them. whether it's out of anger, envy, or jealousy they have a twisted way of thinking that killing the person who is making them feel like that is the best way to go. anyone who thinks like that should see a therapist, not be considered a liability to our country.
if someone does "go insane" and kills a mass amount of people or even just one, and is convicted who do you think is paying for there therapist?! |

the same people who are paying to keep them in prison. the same people who pay for their meals. the same people who pay for lethal injection. it's more convenient and saves money to use capitol punishment over a life sentence, but no one has the authority to chose whether someone lives or dies.
it's not that it's just cheaper but if no one has that authority to take someone else's life then the person that commited that crime must reap the same doing. if someone decides one day to take someones life for no good reason then they should in my opinion get the same treatment. "an eye for an eye" |

"They just rot in prison (which in my opinion, if we're basing this argument on retribution/"eye for an eye" ideology) is a worse punishment than death (which is moderately painless and quick).". Have you ever talked to someone in prison, that has life without parole? Because I am sure that they are not raising thier hands to be put on death row and killed. And for the whole painless and quick death statement....WOW! No. People say it is quick and painless because that makes them look like what they support is right, but the truth is that you don't die quick and you most definitely do not die with out any pain. It just looks painless to the ones watching the person. Well if that makes them feel better lets just keep violating peoples RIGHT TO LIFE!
And if that isn't enough, the idea that it is a more cost-efficient approach to use the death penalty than leave people in prison is false. Completely and utterly false. Sorry, but most people who claim this is a valid statement have never studied or been in the criminology field. Using the death penalty (lethal injection being the most popular) is actually more expensive, then just leaving that person in prison. Strange, I know. I was surprised when I first learned this. I have done much research in this area and have talked to people from this field. Carrying out the death penalty (including imprisonment, trials, re-trials, salaries of judges/lawyers, appeals, and the actual execution) is very costly even though the average citizen does not realize this. Here is a link with a long article about just HOW costly it is: http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org...
On average (keep in mind it is more expensive in some states), it costs SIX times more to execute someone than to give them life in prison without the possibility of parole. There is NO chance they can return to society, so that argument cannot be made. They just rot in prison (which in my opinion, if we're basing this argument on retribution/"eye for an eye" ideology) is a worse punishment than death (which is moderately painless and quick).
While the Bible may be quoted as saying "An eye for an eye" it also may be quoted as saying, "...leave the judgement to Me (God)."
Some convicted murders come to see the errors of their ways so to speak and make valuable contributions from their jail cells. he founder of Gang Members Anonymous is serving a life sentence in California.
Gotta go with Marge on this one.
That is pretty much the argument for the death penalty. Kill those who would kill others, no heed to their humanity, correct?
Just remember that the aforementioned quote is by none other than Hitler himself.
