if somone spits on you if your like most people you'll get in there face and why not, they just spit on you they invaded your personal body space and insalted you if this was me i would be up in there face because they would deserve it.so i say this don't respect others if they don't respect you

Granted, I'm not the best example, but I firmly believe in the Golden Rule--Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Say, for example, that someone came up to me on the street and called me an idiot for, I don't know, a letter I wrote to the local paper. How would I respond? If I followed your philosophy, I would probably punch their lights out, or insult them back, and they would probably deserve it. However, if I spoke to them gently, and tried to reason with them, they might apologize and, better yet, see the issue from my viewpoint. Repaying a wrong with a wrong gets you nowhere.

well i think i was misunderstude i would get in there face and confront them about there comment but i wouldnt hit them

WHAT you do to retaliate is irrelevant. It's that you do it at all. Frankly, I'm wondering how you can go through life like this. If I responded like you do to everything negative that has been said about me, I might be in jail. Responding to others is one of the primary elements of civilization. Without it, we would be no better than the animals. I am really, really wondering about your self-awareness.

Responding to others is one of the primary elements of civilization. Without it, we would be no better than the animals. your right its how you confront if you do it with hitting the n yes you'll end up in jail but if you give them no respect thenthat doesnt mean hitting them it means no respect

I don't honestly have anything else to say. You have made no arguments and your whole premise is entirely ludicrous.

well i am sorry you feel this way i have only stated that give no respect to those who dont give it to you not giving respect does not mean hitting them!!!

Okay. I'll explain it one more time. It does not matter HOW you reciprocate a slight. What matters is that you do it at all. The argument will only escalate, and it is totally pointless. You just can't go through life like that!!

This is quite a debate, although no real debating was done. My opponent said something, and then I refuted. He said the same thing again. Repeat. Repeat. Failure to argue coherently, or even argue at all, is grounds for losing a debate in my book.

The whole issue of "respect" among todays youth is completely misguided. Every little annoyance is considered disrespect, and most don't want mutual respect, they want automatic respect before considering showing same in return.

Some respect is common courtesy while other respect comes with a position. For example, you might not like a Teacher or Boss calling you by your first name while you are forced to refer to them as Mr. or Mrs. X. Many teens today view this as inequitable and hence disrespect towards them. However, in that case you are showing respect for the position of leadership the person holds.

The military is a good example of this. Enlisted soldiers are made to salute Officers. This is not to force respect of the person, but to show respect to the position.

I would suggest it would much better serve the youth today to practice respect as a common courtesy rather than get caught up in whether or not they themselves are receiving a perceived slight in the area.
