The motion to be debated is" So called family friendly policies, such as maternity leave, paternity leave and parental leave should be severely restricted, or even abolished. In practice they disrupt business , increase the cost of production and put the UK at a competitive disadvantage with other countries" For/ against the motion.

Pro

Alright, I understand the topic and accept the debate as the Pro position. This means that I will be "For" family friendly employment social policies.

I look forward to a fun and thought-provoking debate and am confident of my position on the issue at hand. I will now await for my opponent to present their argument as Instigator.

I extend, once more, the opportunity for my opponent to present their argument as instigator of this debate.

Should my opponent forfeit the last round, I will present my case in order to fulfill my duty of upholding my position with an argument.

I now return the floor to my opponent and eagerly await a response.

It does not disrupt business. Many business's are well-aware ahead of time when their employee is expected to give birth. Many employees request the time off as soon as they have a confirmed due date from their doctors. [1] Also, baby bumps can start to show as soon as 12 weeks [2], 6 more months is plenty of time for an employer to find a solution for when his employee goes on leave.

The other two points raised are invalid as they have no reasoning behind the claims made.

A new mother needs time for her body to heal from the pregnancy. [3] Emotional distress or distraction would only hinder a parents performance at work. No production cost increase or apparent disadvantage evidence has been given by my opponent.

Reasons for voting decision: Well, the opponent forfeited. Like a lad/pro, BoT still provided an argument. I'm convinced lol.
