Thanks for the challenge, Pro.

I'll argue this point based on 5 points to start off with:

1. Characters
2. Plot (Story Lines)
3. Humor
4. Appeal
5. Catch Phrases

1. Characters

Each show revolves around a family with two heterosexual parents and three children, including two babies. The show also has a supporting cast, and some guest star appearances. Let's review.

A) The Father: I'd say that Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson both tie as humorous and moral dads. They're both alcoholic, dumb, over-weight, mean and subsequently funny.

B) The Mother: In a battle of Marge vs. Lois, Marge easily wins.

C) The Son: Chris Griffin is ugly as sin, fat, boring and hardly ever funny. Bart is clever and over bad @ss. Point - Simpsons.

D) The Daughter: Lisa Simpson rocks! Meg has her moments, but they are really few and far between. She's mostly just as dull as her mother, while Lisa is as spirited. However, I love when the Griffins make fun of Meg, making her the focus of a lot of jokes. So... Point - Tie.

E) The Baby: Obviously Stewie beats Maggie by far.

F) Supporting Cast: Are you kidding me? Moe, Mr. Burns, Apu and the Flanders help carry this category for The Simpsons easily.

G) Guest Stars: Again, Simpsons carry this contest easily by far. This is mostly due to their characters played by guest stars who play themselves. Also, Simpsons utilizes these guest roles far more than FG and thus plays their story lines and humor around them more.

This category goes to The Simpsons.

2. Plot (Storylines)

Here's the thing - The Simpsons story lines are a lot more fully developed and well written. The Simpsons also focuses on a lot of controversial subjects, such as issues of race, sexuality and public scandals. The Simpsons take this category.

3. Humor

Family Guy is edgier and much more liberal with their humor than The Simpsons. I'd argue that FG is funnier just based on their controversial and very ballsy jokes which are in your face and don't try sugar-coating things. However, keep in mind that back in the day, The Simpsons were actually considered ground-breaking in their content (particualrly when Conan O'Brien was a writer). Also, while FG's jokes are usually rooted in sexual or lewd content, The Simpsons jokes about a lot of political issues or popular public controversy. Additionally, I'd argue that the guest star characters on The Simpsons are FAR more humorous than those on FG. However, while the Simpsons relies on the writing and story lines for humor, FG does an excellent job of making their characters hilarious, and their humor suit their characters. So, I'd give this point a TIE.

4. Appeal

In its prime, The Simpsons had far more viewes than Family Guy ever had. And, in lasting for nearly two decades without being cancelled, The Simpsons continues to receive continued success in re-runs and being played and really embraced overseas. Also, The Simpsons has won 25 emmys, and Family Guy has won 2. In addition to the number of people who like/watch each show, what's also important is how appealing the critics find these shows. Winner of the appeal category - The Simpsons.

5. Catch Phrases

The Simpsons is responsible for such popular temrinology infilitrating the main stream, such as "Eat my shorts," "Don't have a cow, man!" and "Aye, carumba!" Family Guy is responsible for "What the deuce?" and my personal favorite, "Giggity!" Stewie also produces a lot of goodes, including "Oh crap" and a bunch more. So, although I'd say that The Simpsons phrases have become more popular, FG kind of out-does TS in this category a little bit.

Conclusion:

Based on this introductory point system, and the fact that Pro has offered no arguments thus far, it should be clear that The Simpsons trump Family Guy in almost all categories, and thus proves to be the better show.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro wasted the debate and apparently conceded to Pro's arguments. Pro, I congratulate you for your defense for the Simpsons. You at least argued; Pro did not, unfortunately.
