My opponent claims that "Finn Hoffman" is the best. I do not know who this person is, nor will three search engines, but the burden of proof nevertheless is on him to prove that he, or she, or it is in fact "the best."

But what does "best" mean? Let's look to Merriam-Webster [1]:

1. better than all others in quality or value

2. most skillful, talented, or successful

3. most appropriate, useful, or helpful

My opponent has not specified, however, what this person is best at. Skydiving? Debating? Running? Swimming? Hiking? Because he has not specified, we must presume that his contention is that Finn Hoffman is the best at everything. That is his burden of proof.

But let me ask you this: if Finn Hoffman is the best at everything, must be not be the best at "not being the best?" Moreover, he must be the best at "being the worst?" This is a self-defeating prophecy on our hands, and an impossible burden of proof for my opponent to fulfill.

Haha no worries. I needed something to occupy the time I'm spending not working on my own schoolwork.

Oh, alright. If I knew he was 12, and this wasn't the least bit serious, I honestly wouldn't have bothered.

Best of luck in your class, though.

It wasn't a project, exactly, but we are doing persuasive writing in school. Our English teacher showed us this debate website and said that we could make an account. He said that we could write something up and see if someone would respond, just as an experiment. Finn didn't write anything like he was supposed to, like I said he was trying to be funny for putting this up as a "debate". What I meant my "that was not necessary was that it wasn't something you should bother trying to debate about, it's merely a 12 year old boy trying to get some laughs, and that it's not a real debate.

"That was not necessary" was expressing disapproval, but it doesn't much matter at this point.

Out of curiosity, what kind of school project was this for? I can't imagine how starting a debate that he wasn't planning to follow through to the end could be a project.

Since when was telling someone "He was just trying to be funny" complaining? I don't really care either ^^, just trying to defend a classmate.

Geez, this is the most debating I've done in a while. Ok, I'll bite.

Your first comment to me: "Oh, and for the other person that was debating. That was not necessary, he is just trying to be funny .-."

Definition of "complain" from Merriam-Webster:

1. to say or write that you are unhappy, sick, uncomfortable, etc., or that you do not like something

2. to say (something that expresses annoyance or unhappiness)

I think your comment fits that description, but honestly, I don't care much about this to go back and forth with you on something so trivial, haha.

No, You should re read the comments. I clearly said that he is not going to reply. Complaining and telling are two VERY different things. If you still think that I was complaining, prove it.

No, that's not true. Reread the comments. You told me that I shouldn't have accepted this debate or taken it seriously--you initiated contact--and I said, responding to you, that it's fair game.

And I don't really care if he responds or not. It'll be inconvenient, sure, but it's a free win if he simply forfeits every round.
